I burned a game I downloaded online using CloneCD. I used a high-qualit DVD-R (because the host of the downloaded game said +R doesn't work too well with PS2). So after burning it, I decided to try it at my friends house. He put a PS2 Gameshark in his modded PS2, but the red screen came up and said please insert a disc, or something like that. I couldn't even get my game to work. Can anyone tell me the right way to use a Gameshark? Thanks.
1) Some versions of gameshark can't be used as a swap disc.
2) Some PS2s (esp v1-8 or so) can't read DVD-Rs (atleast not consistently). Could also be a dying laser.
3) Which modchip was installed?
need more info
How is the PS2 modded.
What brand of DVD's did you use
Why did you use CloneCD to copy a DVD?
use DVD Decypter to copy a DVD game.
DVD-R should work fine with any model as long
as they are quality DVD's
Why do you use gameshark to load back ups, get swap magic
or a mod chip. If your friends PS2 is modded then he
would not need gameshark to load back ups.
I used CloneCD because the guy who hosted the download also burned it.
"Use Daemon-tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc) to mount the image you downloaded on a virtual drive. Then just copy from that virtual drive using CloneCD (recommended)." I would ask him, but he's still on vacation. :-/
First off this is a forum about backups. We only discuss backing up, which means you must own the original. However, ignoring that, here are a few points you should follow for a good backup-playing experience:
1. Don't mount the image and do a copy. If you have a .iso file, just burn it directly to disc using DVDDecrypter.
2. Use the highest quality media you can get. PS2 (especially older versions) is picky about the quality of media. Poor media can cause your laser to degrade as well. I recommend Taiyo Yuden (aka TY) discs. TY is an OEM maker, which means unless you buy from an online store (like www.meritline.com), its usually rebadged. Go to your local electronics store and look for Fujifilm DVD-R. Look on the packaging for 'Made in Japan'. That is Taiyo Yuden media.
3. The methods to boot PS1 and PS2 games may be different, depending on what type of mod is installed in the PS2. Most of the time the word "mod" is used in the context of an installed modchip capable of direct booting. It seems like what is installed in your case is a swap mod, so you would need to find out exactly how it boots PS2 discs, if at all.
I recommend you simply get a set of swapmagic discs and make your own swap card, since that is sure to work.
Now i am more confused then before
Is this a PS1 game or PS2?
Also do you know if it is DVD or CD based? (you need to)
If it is a PS1 game it is most likely CD based
and needs to be copied to a CD not a DVD
and just for the record Memorex are one of the worst
DVD's around.
>< The host (I'll call him thewird now) recommended Memorex, I think... :(
BTW, this game is Initial D: Special Stage. Japanese PS2 game.
I'm just thinking about getting a swap disc instead, but anyone know if this is only available online? And do I need the original to use swap disc or play the game then?
