Pardon me for my naiveness as i'm a beginer.
Just a couple of questions...
1) Do you need to have a dvd writer to burn PS2 games?
2) Can you burn a PS2 game in a CD-R?
Any sort of help would be very much appreciated..
:)

Yes.... you need a dvd writer/burner to burn/back up PS2 games. Yes..and No you can/can not burn or back up a PS2 game in a CD-R disc. Meaning some of the PS2 games are press in a DVD5 or DVD9 (DL media), then you can't back up on a blank CD-R disc. If the original game was on a CD disc, then you can back it up on a CD-R disc.

Thanks for the reply...
Would like to ask comments on this dvd writer...
Am a newbie in computer stuffs...
So would like comments on this burner...
I'm able to get it for about 55 Singapore dollars which is about USD33 for a second hand Sony DRU-720A.
Is it worth the deal?
Purpose of buying includes backing up of PS2 games and DVD movies.
Any sort of help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
The specs of the burner are as below
(16x/8x/16x DVD+RW, 16x/6x/16x DVD-RW, 4 DVD+R DL, 48x/24x/40x CD-RW - SKU: DRU720A)

Do you have a Mod-chip or are you using Swapmagic with your PS2?
If not then in order play backups you'll need a mod-chip installed or Swapmagic with either a slide card or Fliptop (I recomend the fliptop)
swapmagic3.com for info on swapmagic

@Kenneth85,
Go for it.... According to my experienced the Sony Dru710A or 720A is a good dvd writer, in addition, it's capable of writing Dual Layer (DL media) as well. Honestly, that is a pretty cheap price to me comparing to mine when I first bought my SONY DRU 710A in November 2004, it's $120 US (after rebate it's like $90). Afterall, I'm pretty much satisfy with this burner and since November 2004 until now, I "have not" experienced any issues in regards to backing up or burning whatsoever. However, some members in here have had issues, but that's due to using bad or low grade crap medias. The choice is yours to make.

Do you have a Mod chip or Swap Magic Discs? Fliptop Slide Card ETC?
If not that's why it won't work your system needs to be modded in some fashion

I have the Sony DRU-700A and they are great burners
i do not have anywhere near the problems that others
seem to have backing up games. I found 2 brands of media
that work every time and stick with them (Philips & TDK)
But that burner will do anything you could want.

To answer your original question "Do I need a DVD rewriter for burning PS2 games".
YES & NO.
Confussed?? Don't be. PS2 games come in both formats ie. some on CD's & some on DVD's.
On the back cover of every PS2 game at the bottom right hand side usually, it will tell if it's a "CD" or a "DVD Rom". If it's a DVD, then you need to burn it using a DVD writer. If it's a CD then you can use a CD writer.
Hope this helps!!!!
