Live in North Louisiana and the highest price for regular gas is $2.50. One place sells it as low as $2.43.

@tsquare: read in one thread that you were in Germany about same time I was at Zweibrucken AB from '84-87 while in USAF. Retired now in LA; but sure enjoyed my tour in Germany.

I logged in on March 1st 2005, and it's incredible to believe that in so short time I've learnt all that I know about DVDs from this forum...

@LABOY

Was there twice: 76-79 and 83-88. Lived in Heidelberg both times (on the economy) and I worked for the Army Audit Agency with district headquarters in Frankfurt. I ran the Heidelberg and Seckenheim offices (close together), and we also had offices in K-Town, Zweibrucken, and Stuttgart. Loved every minute I was in Germany. I was on the road work-wise almost every week. Out on Mondays - back on Fridays most weeks. Over the course of 8 years, I ran audits in Germany, England, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Traveled from Russia down to north Africa. Spent a lot of time in the PX/commissary at Ramstein.

@tsquare43:
I was in the financial management community and Comptroller at Zweibrucken Air Base; as such I was audit liaison for the installation so all auditors, GAO, DAO, and AFAA had to go thru me besides the fact that my function was constantly audited. Didn't see many Army auditors but who knows our paths may have crossed. Finished up my AF career working with Army at DFAS, Indianapolis as Director of Military Pay.

1.29 euro per litre here in Finland -- 80 percent of the price is tax, just like in most other European countries. So, you don't exactly have plans to buy a 4-litre SUV here, unless you want to spend half of your salary on gas :-)

$1 dollar Canadian (99.9 cents)/litre in Toronto.
Easy to convert to American gallon (3.8 = $3.80) or Imperial (4.5 = $4.50)
So converting $3.80 to American = ~$3.10/gallon USD.
Yes mostly taxes here too...
Gas was 49.9/litre coupla years ago - has doubled, but meanwhile PC hardware has dropped by 1/2, crazy world.

€1.09/L in Ireland. As well as that car insurance is about €1500-2000/year for an 18 yr old male :) How I love my country!

neilm247: At least you don't have this moderate 100-140 percent car sales tax we have in Finland (==take a car that costs 30,000 euros in countries without car tax, like Germany, and its retail price here is 60,000 - 75,000 euros).

ddp: Forgot to add the <sarcasm> tags, apologies. But yes, Finnish car taxation is insane -- and it applies to imports as well, so there's no getting around it really :-)

Rosco404: Annual road tax here in Finland for gas (==petrol for Brits, not LPG :-) cars is e94 and for diesel cars, it depends on car's weight (diesel is significantly cheaper in Finland than petrol, but due the higher annual road tax, you need to drive minimum of appx. 25,000km per year for diesel car to be cheaper in annual costs.. :-).

Summarum: Car owners are good for government, bit like smokers (although cigarette taxation is something that Britain has perfected to the maximum :-).
