magic 3.1+ modchip Hard Drive problem

i recently modded my PS2(v4 Gap bios) with a Magic 3.1+ modchip. It won't boot PS2 backups if my Hard drive(40GB Sony packaged with FFXI online) is in it. My guess is there isn't enough current present at the power point( http://www.allmodchip.com/install/magic31plus/magic31plus_v4_gap.jpg ) with the HD installed. Does anyone know of an alternate spot where I can grab power from on the Motherboard? Does the chip run off of +5v? Any help would be much appreciated.
