Hi,
I record with Philips DVD Recorder from TV. Whats the best way to extract recording, remove ads, and put back together again as DVD.
I have used DVD Shrink to remove the start and end ads, but what about the ones in the middle?
Thanks for the help,

GarLad

A quick and dirty way to do it would be to use TMPGEnc Plus. In the File Menu it has Mpeg Tools and in that dialog is a Merge and Cut tool. Basically you move a slider and select Start and End sections to save to disk. Then just merge them all together later. If you want to do anything fancy with fades or some effects then you prolly need some kind of editor. But just for chopping out sections you might get by with it.

You can download a trial version from here:
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tp.html

(I recommend the TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 instead of version 3.0 because I don't like the idea that if the author's web site goes away I can't verify my license and the app will quit working!! So I stick with 2.5. Plus there's the fact that I already know how to do what I need to do with it for the most part.) :)

A free alternative may be VirtualDubMod. You might check for some guides for both tools on google.

Thanks for info.
So I would have to convert DVD Disc to mpeg first? I have done this before with poor results. Can you recommend a method for converting to mpeg? Then I can use your suggestions to split/cut whatever.
Thanks,

You might check hardware forums that cover the recorder you are using.
I don't have a stand-alone DVD recorder yet myself so I don't know what options are available. I would try to capture the raw data onto the PC somehow, but if you can do it or not would vary with the recorder options. Check the DVD recorder forum cuz I'd only be guessing.

The same program, TMPGEnc Plus would be able to convert but it's always better to use the files with the most info, the raw data, instead of editing reformatted stuff.
