I am trying to do something I think should be simple but I'm having no luck. I want to copy some of my DVD's to a hard drive to be used by a Media Server running Microsoft's Media Connect software which can handle >10 GB .mpg files. The steps I've been taking are
1. Decrypt the DVD with DVD De-crypter 3.5.4.0 to make an iso file
2. Using DVD Shrink 3.2 to copy the main movie .vob files to the hard drive
3. Using VOBMerge 2.5 to merge the .vob files
4. Changing the .vob to .mpg on the merged file
When I do this both the merged file (and the individual .vob files) play for a little while then just stop. I have no idea what the "correct" method is to do this or what I'm doing wrong. I do not care about file size, only quality, as I am copying to a Terrabyte drive. Can any of you really smart DVD folks offer any help? Thanks.

I just started this forum too. I'm looking to do the same thing but I want to play the files on a d-link media server. quality is no issue either so i just use dvd decryptor. So far I've learned that the player is what is stoping the movie. I tried thier suggestion. Powerdvd which is free from this sight and the whole movie plays through just fine, but just on my pc. Does someone know if the files need to be converted to AVI or some easy solution to our problem?

Hi,

I used DVDDecrypter to rip to my HD.

My Pinnacle Show Centre SC1000g media player plays the VOB files perfectly through the TV, though I am interested in merging the VOB files as there is a slight pause between VOBs.

The only program I have found for merging VOB files is VOBMerge 2.5. It works great but will not play through my D-Link server using either the D-Link (size limit 2 GB)or Microsoft's Media Connect software (file needs to be changed from.VOB to .mpg) where it stops playing and then stops. I suspect that there is something in the .ifo files that is needed to help play the .VOB files correctly. Anyone find any fixes. The quality and time to convert to either MPEG-2 or Divx/Xvid/AVI just isn't worth it.
