Thanks. It's $29 for the Platinum. But I'll try the demo before I buy. Thanks again.

Mort81, I have found using Intervideo Copy 3 Platinum (actually one of my favorites!) that you can remove the DTS if you want. I personally enjoy DTS over DD, yet I'm kind of a stickler about the sound as well the video. Actually, DTS shows up as DTS, while over 5.1 sounds only show AC3. I usually use the customize and then remove any subtitles, and extra 5.1 audio streams. The only movies that can have problems with this (in my experience) have been a few Warner Brothers. I do agree completely that anyone interested needs to download the Trial version of Copy 3 Platinum and see how it works with their system. In my case Rebuilder Pro RC 5.1/CCE basic is my favorite and used all the time, yet for times when the compression isn't that great I use Copy 3. Typically when a movie has the compression # 4 or 5. I have made back-ups with the #reaching 3, yet I have found that is based upon the source material (Criterion editions) look sharp and hard to see the difference against the original. Agin this is my opinion and the experiences I have with Copy 3.

MovieDud,

Thanks for the clarification on DTS with copy3. I couldn't remember as I too use DVD-RB Pro/CCE for almost all my backups. $29 for platinum is a damn good deal. The best free software out there now for video quality would have to be RB/HC but then again they don't have the reauthor and editing abilities like dvd shrink that a lot of people prefer. I've got DVDReMake to do all my editing so I could care less about editing and reauthoring abilities built into any trancoder/encoder software.

If I was to start all over and wanted the best bang for my buck with least amount of software, least cost, and best video quality it would be: dvd decrypter (free), DVDReMake ($34.95), RB/HC (free), and if I didn't already have some oem burning software nero 6 suite 3 oem ($8.00) (I haven't figured out yet what nero ultra has that it doesn't including recode 2).

Mort

Mort81, I wholeheartedly agree. Rebuilder with HC by Hanks is pretty darn good for free. I actually use it occassionally. I too have ReMake Pro...still learning all the ends and outs for all my editing (Love the ability to blank out certain scenes!) Last night I edited a back-up using Shrink, actually had three different sections to the movie, then used DVD2One and it's great joining feature to put it together. (Kind of experimenting and it worked!) I like Copy 3, yet at times it can be frustrating with Warner Bros. and the movie only option. Yet, the other 95% of the time it works flawlessly for me and I do like the picture quality. I wish I wouldn't have purchased 1 click or Dvd Cloner 2 (not ripping the progs, just regret towards the $ spent!). Again it's a learning experience and I appreciate your wisdom and experience for all of us who are eager to learn and have fun.

yeah doing the movie only with DVDCopy3 doesnt work well because of NO re-authoring capabilities.

I have MUCH better luck with CloneDVD2 the picture quality isnt quite as good but real close

@aabbccdd, Yes I also use CloneDVD 2, Quality is good, just doesn't have that overall sharpness as compared to Copy 3, yet I'm watching the copy on a 55 inch 16X9 HDTV, so like many of you the quality issue is critical. I still use CloneDVD 2 because it does have great re-authoring capabilities. Have a good one!

I agree that CloneDVD2 is very close video quality wise to DVDCopy3 and blows it away in the features catagory.
