Ok, I have some anime episodes, and they are all subed. Is there a way to extract the subs from the video, and then change the wording, and add them back on to the video??

Please REPLY!

Thanks!

You would need to use one of the apps available for OCR'ing from an AVI source. Somehow I can't see it working well since the subs would be over constantly changing video. Next issue is adding the new subs whilst there are still old subs underneath.

Everything is different if you have softsubs, in that case you can just open them in notepad, change the words and save. Fansubbers from what I have seen like to hardsub though. Two reasons for this,
1) They don't like people stealing their work.
2) Some advanced substation alpha effects are hard to render in realtime.

So the best bet would probably be to download the raw source and then sub it yourself.

Anything that has been fansubbed, you should be able to download raw's. Much better than putting subs over other subs.

Guess it might be hard to get raws for old stuff though.

Its ok,I see now that its too much work to just wanna change a couple of words. By the way, the anime was Inuyasha, and Naruto. If anyone has watched it, or anything else by Ani-Kraze subs, you would know that they fail to translate some iportant things. Like in Inuyasha, Kaze No Kizu=Wind Scar, Youkai=Demon etc. They say what its means in the beggining of the episode, but they just keep the JAP form throughout the whole series.

But anyways, its ok, I already finished watching the Inuyasha, though I didnt like the ending too much....

You can use subtitle workshop to do so easily.

If you want to rip the subtitles off from a VOB file you should use SubRip. I've done it easily and you can even find a guide on "how to" at the Guides section (archive) from this very website.

I logged in on March 1st 2005, and it's incredible to believe that in so short time I've learnt all that I know about DVDs from this forum...

No one is talking about VOB's here though and I fail to see how subtitle workshop would help with the issues of placing subs over old subs. You would still have the issues of whether it is readable and or covering up more of the picture.
