I note with interest that Scuba Pete speaks to the need to use good quality media for backups. Memorex is identified as a poor quality disc. Scuba Pete then goes on to mention numerous brands he considers ?excellent bets?. Among others he identifies ?almost any discs manufactured by RICOH, Verbatim or Mitsubishi?. As I peered through the brands mentioned, I didn?t see any reference to Imation. Does anyone have experience with the Imation discs? Are they among the ?good quality? group?

I use Imation quite a lot myself. It comes with different classes and prices. Where I live, it's considered good brand, all things considered.

Here are some older codes for imation.
Imation DVD+R 2.4x (RICOHJPNR00)
Imation DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01)
Imation DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01)
Imation DVD+RW 2.4x (CMC MAG.W01)
Imation DVD+RW 2.4x (RICOHJPNW01)
Imation DVD+RW 4x (RICOHJPNW11)
Imation DVD-R 1x (RITEKG03....)
Imation DVD-RW 1x (OPTODISCK001)
Ricohjpn and ritek are good budget media but the cmc mags would scare me away.

I don't know why Memorex have such a bad name. Every back-up I have done on a Memorex works on my V7 PS2. I think the mix of PS2 version, type of disc, make of burner and burning program can be so varied that everyone needs to find the right combo for themselves. Its just a matter of trial and error.

Yes, 'trial and error' is fun too.

With regard to the codes which appear earlier in this thread, are they printed on the media?

No media codes are never printed on the media or package (that would be to convenient). Thats why it's better to use media that you know who the manufacturer is such as verbatum (95% mitsubishi chemical co.) or taiyo yuden (taiyo yuden beware of fakes) or your aware of the manufacturers of other brand name media such as sony, fuji, and maxell. Memorex, phillips, and HP are some good examples of media that buy from the lowest bidder and you never know what you're going to get from batch. No name brands and retail store branded media are the same way.
