Hi
I just purchased Memorex DVD-R 16x media from Futureshop in the GTA Region. When I run a series of tests on the medaia the media manufacturer seems to be CMC MAG.AM3. Is this a good type of media or will i be burning coasters often?
Thanks
Yazz

Welcome to the world of bad media. These are right near the top of the WORST media list. Stick with Taiyo Yuden and Verbatims.

Sony DRU-710A (BYX4)

Favorite Media: Sony 8x+R(MADE IN JAPAN)

Memorex:

I do not refer to that brand name. To me,it is called memosux!!

Cmags, that is the reason I call it Memosux! At 16x:Coaster city!

Take them back for the verbatim 16x if you want that speed of media. If not, you'll probably end up burning them at 4x or even 2.4x.Your stand alone players may tell you that when you try to view those 16x cmags.

This is the first report I have seen on cmags making 16x speed media, UGHH!
And low and behold, whose brand name that will want to carry 16x cmag media? Memosux! Very typical for them.

What's your burner brand name and model #?

Chances are if you have a 16x writer,it can successfully burn High quality 8x media at 12x and even 16x if you desire. Mine will!
I'd burn my +8x yuden000-T02s at 16x before I try 16x cmags at 2.4x!

Just my 2 cents worth!

short and simple, you will PROBABLY be burning coasters, CMC MAG sucks and i wouldn't use them if someone GAVE them to me for free and THEN paid me to "test them out" for them~ :)

i have Very good luck with the Verbatim MCC004s 16x DVD+R media, i haven't tried the dash format yet in the 16x variety, but, im sure it's pretty good under the Verbatim label~

good luck~

What online stores do u recommend for media purchasing? How is supermediastore.com and blankmedia.ca? Are they reliable sources? And what other places are there that I can purchase good media from?

I gather from your post GTA means Toronto as a fine business is located in your fair province, don't even hesitate to order from blankmedia.ca they are without doubt the best supplier of high quality blank media in the country. I'm in Alberta and a regular customer. Good prices best name brands in stock, and speedy delivery too.

Since joining AD and hearing all the good things about Ty that is what I buy from them. I also have an Epson R300 printer so I get the white hub printable + type. I also fell into the trap of sticky labels, and Memorex media before I knew better. Whatever the cause they do seriously affect the way a burnt DVD plays, I know that first hand.

They seem to have a flat rate express shipping of $10 and a pack of 50 is $43, but you end up with a 1st. class product. I have never seen them for sale in a retail store. Seeing as you are in the GTA you should have a walk or jog to Kingston and save shipping. Ha Ha

You could also drop by a BestBuy store this week, and pick up a 50 pack of Fuji DVD+R that is on sale for $17.99!!! Look through the stack, and grab one that says MIJ (made in Japan), and you will have a 50 pack of TY-T02 disks!!

Yes the -R packs are on sale as well, but I haven't seem a 50 pack of MIJ -R disks for months at Bestbuy. All of the ones I've seen lately are MIT.

Are the TY-TO2s valid TY media. Is that media ID real or fake for TYs?

I'm not sure about the MIT, but the MIJ packs have the TG00159 on the inner hub so they are definately real!! Doubt you would find fakes at a place like Bestbuy.

An easy way to spot the MIJ without having to read all of the labels is to look for the ones with the grey case. The black ones are MIT's.

The bottom of the case that holds the disks. There will be some that are black, and some grey. Grab one of the grey ones, and you should see MIJ below the bar code on the label.
