Hello. Just as an advance warning, I'm new at this, and not horribly technically oriented, so I'm a bit of a newbie :).

I downloaded DVD Decrypter about a month ago, and ripped a few DVDs to my computer (a part of the Highlander TV series.) I have tried to burn them using DVD Shrink combined with Decrypter - but my drive refuses to read the DVD RW discs. All other blank discs I have are too small.

I hope the problem isn't with my drive, but I suspect it might be. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

eh? A +/-R disc isn't gonna have more or less storage than a +/-RW.

what is the make and model of your burner? what brand and format of disc are you using?

I'm using Memorex blank DVD discs. We have another ocmputer inside of our house, which I tried the discs on a little bit ago, and it doesn't recognize them either. I think it might be the discs that suck. At least, that's what I hope.

Well I personnaly don't recommend Memorex. But what format are they? +R or -R?

And what is the make and model of your burner?

plus R (sorry - haven't got a key for that)

As for the make and model of my burner, I'm kind of, um, not sure. I have a Dell laptop computer with a DVD/CD rom drive which burns CDs. If that helps.

God, I look clueless, don't I :).

And the RW's are they +R as well?

Thank you :)

This is what it says: Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-324F.

And the others are plus R as well.

That's it? If so, then you don't have a DVD burner. You've got a CD burner/DVD ROM combo.

Could those be CDs your trying to burn with? CDs can only hold up to 700MB .. so yea a DVD will not fit.

as flip mentioned already, you have a "combo drive", not a dvd-burner, you will NOT be able to burn to dvds with your particular drive, that is WHY your drive probably doesn't recognize your blank dvds (possibility, not certainty)

using a regular cd-r will take MANY MANY blanks to fit a normal dvd sized movie/show onto the cds, some splicing and dicing are necessary to put approx. 4.3gb (assuming you shrank it) onto like 6-7 normal cd-r blanks. could be even more if you did not shrink it and simply ripped using decrypter.

secondly, i would recommend you ditch those memorex media when you do purchase a dvd-burner in the future, you will save yourself a LOT of headache and $$ along the way by sticking with some GOOD media~ suggestions in my sig. :)

Oh man.

Is there any cheaper way to get video to disc? As in, something that costs nothing at all? I just want to get the Highlander episodes off my computer, and I don't really care whether or not they're on DVD when I do.

Can I convert them into another type of video and then split them up and put them on data discs that way? I'm pulling my hair out here.

you can split the episodes up and put them on cd's, but people stopped doing that a while ago, in general. dvd burners can be found as cheap as 30 or so dollars, and media costs as little as blank cd's. it would really be far better for you to buy a dvd burner. they're extremely easy to install, and you'll thank yourself every time you put a dvd in your computer.

but, again, yeah, you can split them up. i don't know if the programs to do it are still around, but they might be on the software section of this site. look for something with a message like "dvd to cd" or such and such :D

Another option besides a slim dvdrw drive (that fits inside your laptop) would be an external dvdrw drive. Check here. http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=420
