Hello all,
I use the NeroVision Express SE. I transfer MPEG2 video files to it to make a DVD. Now...the question I have is such: I am trying to get as close to 4.7G as possible..actually 4.38 is more accurate right? Anyways, when I get..say, a 4.38GIG MPEG2 all ready to and send it in for transcoding it comes out the other end about a GIG smaller. Does this mean I lose a GIG of information? If so I can perhaps dump in a 2HR camcorder MPEG2 file, normally about 5.8GIG, do the transcoding and end up with a 4.3G file. This, of course, fits quite nicely onto a DVD-R...but what happens to the lost GIG of info? Am I ending up with less quality? I want the best transfer my stuff is capable of with the least shrinkage. I am under the assumption that a MPEG2 file wouldn't shrink at all upon burning, if under the 4.7G limit of a DVD-R. Thanks so much for anyone's help in this matter.

You may be losing a little bit of quality, but that of course is normal. Whenever you take a compressed movie file in your case Mpeg-2, and try to RE-ENCODe it into another type, u are changing the compression and decompression rate, but thx to new good programs u will loose some quality, but not much.

Thanx so much....so these "good new programs"...what are a few. Oh yeah....I did a DVD the other day off 8MM...but I bumped the video quality way up and the audio to 256kbps. The video ended up slightly lagging the audio and the movement scenes were jerky..sorta.
