I know blank media comes in cakebox but after you burn them is it still safe to keep them in the cakebox for a long time? OR a paper sleeve will safer? Just a thought

Hi my thoughts on keeping burnt DVDs in the cakebox I wouldn't do it. On occasion I have found scuffing happening between discs to the point that say the last 5 discs had bad scuff marks on the surface and were difficult to burn or were to throw away. I keep mine in CaseLogic binders no problems so far.

I print my better movies on full hub printable media and use the full size cases, just like my retail dvds come in.I'll print off case cover and nearly looks identical to the original.

For the many other B-movies I get, I'll just use the regular full size case-but slimmer and/or the slim double cases. These fit nicely in my 9 layer self-custom made- dvd rack. The regular jewel case and slim jewel cases are nice, but won't fit in my rack.

Binders are also very nice,it all depends on where you are going to store them.

Cakeboxes are bad, you'll scratch them all up just trying to find the backup you want to view.

I keep mine in binder cases and some are in jewel cases. The dual layer backups are in full size cases. Keeping your backups in a cakebox is not a good idea, you would constantly have to shuffle through them to find what you want, creating more chances of scratching them. My two cents.

Will the CD marker ink or thermal ink stick to the plastic on the binder?

i use a sharpie to label them and binder cases stored sideways, i also make sure to keep them stored in my dark closet, away from direct sunlight or overly excessive heat/temperatures. :) everyone will have their "own style" of storage~ :)

Here in Oz I buy the Alloy cases from ebay. They are like the alloy camera cases the pros. use but are designed for dvd/cd`s.

They come supplied with clear numbered sleeves which hang on `slider` racks.

I keep exercise books with a list of which dvd`s are in which box and it`s corresponding number.

Available in silver or black with locks.Good storage solution in my book, and not overley expensive.

I'm like Saugmon. I keep them in full size cases. I get them for free ( see thread about "Good Quality Cases"), so I might as well use them. :o)
I print some discs, on printable media. If not printable media, I use a Sharpie or paper labels. I've never had a problem with paper labels.
I print the dvd case covers on glossy photo paper (I find cheap), let them dry overnight, cut to size, and you can hardly tell a difference between them and the original.................

Best not to store them in the cake box as just moving the box around makes the discs rotate and grind against each other.

My fave is the paper sleeve (better than plastic sleeve) becase paper is softer than plastic. so you can see label through window.

Another tip : People go on about not scratching the data side of the disc, yeah but that can be fixed using a CD descratcher. It's the label side you need to protect more-so.

All my discs are printed using an Epson R200 printer, then covered in fixative spray. When dried they are stored in DJ style aluminium cases and catalogued using movie collector etc... This way they wont ever get damaged and are easy to access without spending ages trying to find them.

Those aluminum cases are nice. Anybody know if the one meritline carries are full aluminum? The description says aluminum/hard plastic...not sure if they meant plastic inside or whatnot.

Prelude22- I keep mine mostly in Verbatim slimline DVD cases They are inexpensive about.25cents at samsclub and they work and take up half the space of fullsize cases ! I print my case covers on bright white 112+ brightness paper and with the clear plastic that holds the paper cover on your dvd cases they look good . I keep my fifhed movies on a wooden rack I bought @ biglots! I would go in order of prefference ! Dvd cases then Binders! but too each his own ! Peace & happy Burning!

gcd04 I know that they sell DVD media in jewel Cases But I would store them in dvd cases or a binder because DVD's are thinner & more fragile around the spindle hole than CD's /Cdr's and you run the risk of cracking your dvd and being that DVD'd spin @ much higher rates then CD's you could be flirting with the disaster of your dvd shattering rendering it and your drive ruined ! you have to ask yourself why don't the movie studio's use jewel boxes hmmm!!! if you like the jewel box format some online retailers sell soft plastic cases that will hold your DVD's safetly and fit in cd racks as well! the kind libraries use for cd's hope this helps you out ! good luck with whatever you use ! Peace & Happy burning!

Got it yesterday. I was expecting the order to be delayed (ordered from Meritline before), so I was a bit surprised when I got it. I must say these aluminum cases are AWESOME!!! I'm waiting to get paid so I can order another one. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Buy the slim CD cases - 100 for $10-$12 bucks on sale. They are space-saving compared to DVD cases and protect from heat, bending, and scratches better than paper sleeves. Cakeboxes are fine to as long as you don't live in a mobile home and they are shaking back and forth constantly. I don't like them because it's hard to find a movie title without emptying the spindle on the desk. And a few of my movies are on 2 discs so the slim cases (which will hold 2 DVDs) are a better choice.
