probably

you can always tell whether a game has junk files in it by using ultraiso, its like isobuster

if you have an image that has dummy files in it,and the iso states that it is 4 gb in size, but you are not sure that is the correct size

load the iso in ultraiso and the "true" amount will be shown,on the top right hand corner, minus all the crap

CNF 34.6KB
DATA 3.37GB
MODULES 1.44MB
NETGUI 4.81MB
NG_CD_UC.ELF 3.99MB
PADDING.BIN 10.0MB
PADFILE.PAD 950MB
SLUS_210.02 2.53MB

For some reason that PADDING.BIN and PADFILE.PAD files seem strange to me. anyone have any ideas???

padding/pad files are like dummy files.ive replaced them and games ive replaced them on run fine.pad is a reference to padding something to make it bigger.if you replace both of those files the game should work fine.if you have a modchip i dont think the game size matters as much as it does with swap magic.so replacing those files might not be necessary.but more than likely you would need to replace those files if you use swap magic.what game is that,by the way?

do i replace the .pad and .bin files with text files? if so they dont overwrite the others. i have to delete the others and put these in. they are named padfile.pad.txt and padding.bin.txt...that cant be right can it?

thats correct, when you extract with isobuster, you dont extract the dummy files.
but you do replace them, like you say with text doc's
if the game is bigger than say,4.3gb ish, then rebuild it
