I tried to do it, i could pull it to the right but the tray just opened about half an inch, so i forced it to open by pulling the tray out, then i pushed it back in and i moved the white thing back in the left place, but now that i want to open the tray it just opens about half and inch, can you tell me how to fix it so that the tray opens completely? Why did you remove the top cover of your Playstation 2?

sounds like it came off the line of the gears if so you will have to open your ps2 and fix that if not what u need to try and do is slide the thing to the right and then to the left again.but it probably came of
the line so u will probably have to open it up.mine did it to me the first time.

okay you pulled your ribbon power cord out
you will need to open your ps2 again and plug that back into the ps2
to get to where u need to go u will have to unscrew the 2 screws by the memcards and 2 in the back by the fan and pull it out of the bottom and and plug that ribbon back in.

I had that happen to one of my old PS2s... it's not that hard to fix depending on what version you have. All you need to remove is the top cover for the PS2 and the cover for the DVD drive.
You need to unsnap the disc cradle from the drive on the right side i think... I havn't done it in a while, but I think i remember seeing couple of screws holding it down. Anyways, after being unsnapped, the cradle will pivot on one side.
Reset the drive to the close position by moving that white tap in the mouth of the drive to the left (may not be white in yours, but it is a tab anywho). Snap the cradle back into place and it will open all the way. I will try to get some pictures if you are still having a hard time. GL.
