Im looking for a burning program that will change the "booktype" on the disk to DVD-ROM. The reason behind this search is because I don't have alot of money to be purchasing a DVD player that reads +R, +RW, -R, -RW or buy a mod chip for my PS2.
I was able to backup some movies with DVD X Copy, but unfortunately it will not work with the newer protections.
So is there anyone out there that can point me to the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

You need to research your drive to see if it's able to book type. DVD Decrypter and I belive Nero can change some brands. Lite-On has a utility that can be downloaded from their site that allows the change. Plextor drives can be changed in PlexTools. NEC doesn't support bit setting but it can be done with hacked firmware.

How do I go about researching the drive for the "booktype"?
Someone, months ago, indicated that DVD Decrypter does such a process. I haven't had the chance to test it out though. Do you know if this is true?

Yeah, Decrypter can book type some brands. What type and model is your drive?

I have noticed that with teh latest Nero Burning Rom that it can be set automatically, and in my case based on Media. The Sony External will book set, yet I believe my NEC doesn't, but using Taiyo Yuden 4x genuine media I have no compatibility issues with my Standalone players. In my second system, which uses a samsung internal burner it will set the book type, again based on media.
I would look at Nero and set it automatically, and alos comfirm if your burner can be set.

If your using Decrypter, just go to Settings, Dvd Drive and scroll down to Changing Book Type. If you burner can be changed then this should be quite simple. I personally use Nero for 90% of all burning , except when I use Copt to Dvd or Decrypter.

... If you open DVD Decrypter and go to settings etc... there is a choice of drives that you can choose for booktyping ... The list is: Nu Tech, Plextor, Ricoh, Benq, LG, LiteOn and NEC ...

Determine the make and model of your dvdrw in device manager and I can probably determine if your drive is capable of bitsetting. It can be kind of tricky because there are some drives that are rebadges of other drives. Eg. Most sony's are rebadged lite-ons, phillips are oem benq's, some hp drives are oem lite-on's or benq's so you need to know what brand to pick when burning with dvdd. On the final settings page in Nero click options, if there is a dropdown menu after change booktype then your drive is capable.

I believe the HP 640c is an oem benq and should be capable of bitsetting. An easy way to find out is next burn you make with Nero, on the final burn settings page click options and if the booktype settings is not grayed out and it will let you select dvd-rom in the dropdown menu then it is capable of bitsetting.
