problems with sin city

hey i've read other threads with sin city but my prob is kinda different. I borrowed sin city and used Alcohol 120% to burn it. I returned the movie and saw how the file is to big to fit on a normal dvd. ***Problem is that the files are mdf. files not iso. so i can't use dvd shrink to shrink the files. so could anybody help me with my problem.

ur joking right.... use dvdfab platinum (express mode)... i don't remember if that had a gold plated circle coded thing on it....

I used DVDFab Decrypter and DVD Shrink to copy this move.
Worked for me.

i tried using DVD Shrink but it wouldn't except the file. i think i probably jus have to get the dvd again and try and burn it. The file on my computer is in mdf. and md0. format so i was wondering if i could somehow get a software to convert the mdf. file into a iso. so if anybody knows of a program that could convert the file it would be great.

-Did you use DVDFab Decrypter or any other(AnyDVD,DVDIdle Pro,DVD43)Decrition Program befor useing DVD Shrink.
DVD Shrink dose have problem with some of the newer Copy protection out there.
-But if you use it just as a compresion tool (to fit a DVD9 in to a DVD-R or DVD+R your choice)it still Rocks.

i tried using magic iso, and it did make the iso. The dvd was excepted on the player, but the iso. was "damaged". The pictures that came up on the screen jump around. so basically it didn't work. i'm not sure if did something wrong or what.

i think u should try dvdfab platinum (express mode)... it doesn't give u the runaround... with this i don't have to shrink or compress anything... i'm using that with a DVD9.... ther r free trial versions available.... if u use the trial version make sure u burn it again with a different program.... for it will skip and freeze... u can do it in less than 15 min...

I still can't back it up. There is a problem with my DVD-Shrink It won't let me "Custom Ratio" anything. It is already AUTOMATICALLY Done. And it is still bigger then what it will fit in a "DVD+R // DVD-R" so hmm any help out here?

I looked through this thread and I don't sea that you've posted anywhere here at all ~ so I haven't the foggest idea what you're referring too ~
I also don't know what you mean when you say:

We can't read minds BUT if your file is too large to handle with Shrink -
Instead of using DVD Shrink to burn the over-sized DVD to disc, select to send it to your HD. THEN, when it's finished that, Open DVD Shrink again, pick the file up from your HD and run it through Shrink a 2nd time, this time to disc and you should be fine.

Go to Edit> preferences> change it now to custom and on the right side input the number 4300 and you should be good to go. If that does not work then do what ScubaPete said for you to do. I had no problems doing the movie and Yes I purchased the DVD first
Also go to ScubaPete's site ( in his sig )and you will find a world of information and great knowledge.

Same problem with Sin City. For some reason DVD Shrink doesn't let you compress the movie more than 50% - 60%. Anyway, in automatic or custom, it still comes out 5000MB. I tried moving it and reloading. I can cut parts out to get it low enough, but I kinda want everything. If I only include DTS it won't play in non-DTS players.

Hi Max777,
I for the life of me don't know what the problem is with Sin City, ~ I unchecked the audio I didn't need and burned it to disc w/o a problem.
BUT iffin' you want a very acceptable backup, follow my suggestion above ~
When you grab the files with DVD Shrink, set your DVD target Size from DVD-5 to Custom and 4300 MB as Car.Mike said, when it says it cannot fit, continue onward, backing it up to your HD and not the disc. Also, What I didn't mention before, go to Quality settings and choose Deep Analysis AND Maximum Sharpness and click "OK." When it finishes, grab it a second time with DVD Shrink THEN burn it to disc - no need to run it through the quality controls again, the first time was enough.
Burning such DVD's such as the original "flipper" Goodfellows (which was truly a large DVD), came out so well, no one could tell it wasn't the original, even with screenshot comparisons on a LCD TV.
This isn't something new at all, MrDVDShrink was the first to suggest this treatment back when I was using DVD Shrink ver. 3.0 Beta 1 back in 2003 and even then it was good.
Trust me, I know of what I speak :D)

Hey, I used SHRINK to compress the entire disc content and create a file on my C: Drive. Then used Nero Recode2 "Recode entire DVD to DVD" I got the pop-up explaining that the file was too big. I then used the magic option....I unlocked the compression ratio. Nero successfully backed the entire disc content up to a single SONY 8X DVD-R. DVD43 was running in the backround.
