I know how to boot into HDLoader and HDadvance but only so far have been able to put only Original Games. Can anyone help me out?

Yes you can play backups but you need a slide tool or a fliptop or some other swapping method b4 you can do it, another way is to use WinHIP on the PC to transfer the image of the game to the Ps2 hdd, you need to hook the Ps2 hdd up as a slave drive to use WinHIP.

I use Cogswap loader to boot up the HDAdvance. How do I use the swap trick loading backups through the PS2? I do not have SM, AR, or Gameshark. Is WinHIP fairly user friendly? Either way will work for me just wondering. Thanks for the quick reply.
