I tried converting a Xvid to mpeg-2 and the video converted fine but there was no audio? Why was this? What can I do to correct it?

I used TMPGE Plus for the conversion. I understand there is some type of tutorial in the sticky posts but I recall a while back someone going over an easier way using only TMPGE.

Thanks for any help.

Load the AVI file with VirtualDubMod and do Stream___Stream List. You'll see which kind of audio your AVI had. I think you'll see that the AVI's audio is AC3 (not loadable by TMPGenc, unless you add some plugins: the Ffchandler's AC3ACM decompressor, for instance - but I never tested it).
If it is so, demux the audio AC3 (with VirtualDubMod) and load it with HeadAC3he converting it to MP2 44.1 kHz (check the 'downsample' box it if HeadAC3he shows it is not 44.1 kHz already).
After having done all, simply multiplex (choosing the correct type before starting the multiplexing with TMPGenc: File___MPEG Tools) the MP2 file with the 'mute' video you just made.
I suggested the 'multiplexing' feature to make you save time.
If you don't have the 'mute' MPG file, simply make the conversion above mentioned (choosing, in HeaAC3he, WAV instead of MP2 is even faster) and load the MP2/WAV file in the 'audio input' box of TMPGenc, just before starting the AVI ---> MPG encoding process.
You should have seen in the prior encoding that the 'audio input' box were left blank by TMPGenc, since TMPGenc couldn't load the AVI's audio (which is the default audio source).
Post here the result, please, so we're aware of your success.

Just run the AVI File through this program and then TMPGEnc will be able to read the audio...

You also Might want to install this:

http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/AC3ACM.zip

This will make it so TMPGEnc can natively read Dolby Digital AC3 audio in AVI files.....

You install it by Right clicking the "AC3ACM.inf" file and going to "Install".....
