How does DVD shrink compress a dvd into 4.7 GB without any video loss?

Anytime you compress a dvd there is some video loss. The amount all depends on how far you need to compress the original. Up to 70% (30% compression) there usually isn't enough loss to notice except on very large TV screens. Just remember to use the best quality blank media you can find and don't burn the copy faster than 4x.

In most cases you will get general playback type problems. Picture breakup, skipping and freeze-up and possible audio problems. With some systems and best quality media you can get away with faster burns, but most members seem to agree that 4x is about max for best quality and playback. With Cheap/poor quality media even 2x sometimes doesn't work well. The small amount of time saved between 4x and say 8x isn't worth the possibility of write errors.
