my ps2 fell of the shelf whilst i was playing a game on it. the game inside it was a dvd rom. since then no dvd rom game works on my ps2. it gives a disk read error. but if i put a compact disk it works. can anyone tell my how i can repair this and what is wrong with it.

you can try adjusting the laser height via the white cog in the back of the dvd drive. you need to open up the ps2 and eject the tray and you will see it. (not on v12 ps2's) mark you original position and then try to adjust one to two clicks at a time in either direction, then try the game. this works sometimes.

you can try to adjust to pots on the bottom of the laser but you then really need to know what you are doing.

if that doesn't work, try a different laser. maybe even try one out of a different ps2 to check before you buy one.

if that doesent work i think in canada lasers are 80 i dont know the exchnage rate

if i need to buy a new laser i'll buy it from here(im in the uk)
i dont wanna open up my ps2 because it will void my guarantee.i'll phone sony up and ask them. they might say i need to send it back.

you can try it. i always use a q tip and alcohol to clean my lens.

sometimes it can be just a dirty laser.
