I installed more ram into my computer the other day. After I installed the RAM, every program runs much faster, except dvdshrink encoding times got very slow, almost 3x as slow. I have ran a search and performed all the suggested functions listed to no avail. For information, I have a pentium 4, 2.6 Ghz with HT, upgraded from 256 Mb to 1 Gb of ram. Windows XP home, DVDShrink 3.2.xxx, HP dvd640I burner, Standard dvd/rom, and a 75 Gb hard drive. If any more information is needed, please let me know. By the way I used corsair XMS pro brand RAM. Please help me speed up my encoding time, or i will have to switch back to the 256 Mb of RAM to do my Encoding then switch back after.

get the latest DVD Shrink, or maybe when you installed the RAM DVD Shrink didnt know where the power came from and couldnt use it prperly. Try reinstalling DVD Shrink to let it re calibrate.

I removed and reinstalled it just now with no improvement.

I checked the IDE controllers, The Primary days DMA if available, Ultra DMA mode 5, the secondary says DMA if available, but says PIO Mode. I reinstalled the driver and the same thing said for both of them.

here is some more information about my memory. memory latency 110.4 nano sec.-- memory read 3793 Mb/s -- memory write 1447 Mb/s--All values Checked with everest.

I think processor speeds is more important then ram.

I have 512megs of ram and have unused physical memory when running Shrink. The processor (2.93gigs) runs 100%.

Make sure burner and any other optical drives are operating in DMA mode, not Pio. Go to Device Manager, IDE controllers. You burner and other optical drive will be on either the primary, or more likely the secondary IDE channel. Right click all IDE channels and select properties, then advanced settings. Make sure both, or for that matter all drives on either channel, are set to DMA if available. If burner is indicating Pio, that's your problem. Once set to enable DMA, reboot and check the settings again to make sure all drives are now on DMA. If Pio turns up again. change setting to DMA if aavilable, the go back to Device Manager/IDE controllers and remove or disable that IDE controller (primary or secondary) containing the channel/drive that keeeps going back to Pio. Then reboot. Windows will find everything again as "new hardware", with the DMA settings enabled.
