If you have both NeroInfo Tool (Nero ToolKit) or DVD Decrypter then it will show you who manufactured the disc along with its id code as well.

(((To check the media id code using DVD Decrypter)))

01) put blank dvd inside either your dvd rom or dvd burner
02) open up DVD Decrypter
03) go to MODE, ISO, READ R (now it should show you the blank media's info on the right hand panel.

(((To check the media id code using Nero ToolKit "NeroInfo Tool")))

01) put blank dvd inside either your dvd rom or dvd burner
02) open your your Nero's StartSmart
03) click on Nero ToolKit, click on Nero Info Tool
04) click on the "Disc icon", (now it should show you the info on your blank media and it's id code.

What's the deal with media codes:

You want the media with the good and high quality manufacturers. Here's a few that I have used and performed at 99% success rate:

Ty-g01/Ty-go2
Yuden000-T02
Maxell-002-00
MXL-rg-02/rg-03
Ritek go4/g05
Ritek R-03
Sony08D1
Verbatim data life plus MCC-003
Ricohjpn-01: That companany produces media for a slew of brand names.

Media quality is the #1 issue. Not only for a successful burn, but some stand alones will have issues with the lower quality mfgs. This lower quality media has to be burned slower, just to even get them to work. The poor media can cause burn errors, therefore throwing your ide controllers into pio mode, instead of dma or Udma mode. The lower quality manufacturers are also breaking down quicker. Also add the chances of uneven dye on the outer edges of the lower quality media, resulting in a reduce backup tarted to 4300 mbs.

Nearly all brand named media uses many different manufacturers. Maxell uses taiyo yuden/hitachi/ricohjpn/and ritek on nearly all their media. But cmags have been lurking in some of their smaller 3 or 5pack dash format. Cmags is one manufacturer of many to be cautious of.Memorex and HP are major brands that use a lot of cmags. So does TDK in the plus format.

You want a quality backup, longevity, compatability and better pictures while you view them on stand alones: Stick with the higher quality manufacturers. Less problems.

HP a1118x-b/athlon 64-3300+/BenQ 1650 BCDC/LG 8163B/Modded Wii/Epson-R300 and Ty Watershields!!!
