i got the WWE smackdown vs raw it gave me unable to read disc first then
i tried for two days and it finally worked then i got metal gear (snake eater) and final fantasy X-2 and it gives me unable to read disc.

in games that work (san andreas, devil may cry 3,WWE,winning 11 8)it loads slowly in devil may cry, winning 11 and in wwe and gives me "error reading CD" sometimes while plaing san andreas.

so i need to know whats wrong the lens needs cleaning or i must add a chip or what?

I mean what speed are you burning your backups. Generally speaking you shouldnt burn faster than 2-4x. I always burn at 2x. Also, you should only use high quality media. Low quality media can make your PS2 work harder, stressing the already fragile laser assembly. Examples of good media are Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim Datalife Plus.

I have backed up Smackdown VS Raw, MGS3,
San Andreas, and Devil May Cry and they
work just fine. It is most likely the
media (DVD's) you are using.
Answering the questions people ask you will
get yo better help.

What brand of DVD did you use and what speed is it?
What speed did you burn them at?
What program did you burn them with?

You can find out about all this stuff if you use google.com, but since im a nice guy, ill just recap it here:

Media. Basically media means blank CD or DVDs. Different brands of media have different quality. Get the best brand you can, because crappier brands have low reflectivity and may decay faster. The best brand you can buy in a store is Verbatim Datalife PLUS, or Fuji 'made in japan'.

Burn speed. This is the speed which your burning software writes the disc. Don't just set it to "MAX" and burn. Try setting it at a lower speed like 1x or 2x and see if that helps. This is because the faster your burner writes, the less time it has to burn each pit on the disc, and in some instances, this can cause malformed or shallow pits that your PS2 has difficulty reading.

If you still don't understand after that, I'd suggest just abandoning backups altogether and playing originals.

if you are playing original games(the ones you buy at the store) and not backup's(burned copies of games). then here are some possibilities:

1. laser needs to be cleaned. q-tip and rubbing alcohol.
2. laser needs to be adjusted via the white cog in the back of the ps2. need to open it to do that. mark original position and then turn cog one to two clicks to adjust laser height.
3. adjust dvd pots (for advanced ppl only)hard to do. don't do it.
4. laser is getting week and warn out. and you need a new one.

if you are playing backup's then what the other guys said

steimy: Actually some older modbos do show 1.33 on boot, so you can't rule out the possibility of a clone chip.

true, But i figure it this way.
If you get a PS2 modded, as so many people do,
And you let people just do whatever they want to it
and do not find out all the specifics of what they
did. Then no one can really help you out much.

I get real tired of hearing people say they let someone
mod their PS2, but they have no idea what they installed
or what chip they have. I just don't understand that at all.
