Hi, I am trying to get the best performance out of Shrink as I have noticed it is slowing as of late and I am having an issue... I'd like to just press ctrl, alt & delete and then stop all the background tasks in task manager but out of the blue pressing those three buttons does absolutely nothing :( ... is there another route/path I can take to get to that pop-up window that shows what programs and tasks are running ... *sigh* I have a feeling there are many little things running in the background that I don't even know about that probably start on startup ... thanks .. any help is appreciated

Right-click your taskbar and select Task Manager

Wow ... I feel like a complete idiot that I didn't know that ... but anyways... I don't feel to bad .. because I tried accessing the task manager that way .. and still nothing happens. ... do you have any other suggestions? Do I still have a task manager?

Go here, and scroll down to "Enable the Task Manager - Disable Task Manager" and click on Enable task manager

well that is definetly A neat little page there with all those tweaks .. but I downloaded the .reg files that were supposed to help but it didn't seem to fix anything .. it must have something to do with all the pop-ups and such I've been getting lately .. it seems to be so hard to find a free adware/spyware detection&deletion program that is actually legit. Do you have any reccomendations ?

yeah It says that it's successfully added into the registry .. but then it still doesn't open ... this is really annoying me now! but thanks alot for your help thus far :) I appreciate it

That's probably why you can't open the Task Manager because you have a virus and spyware. Here's what you should do (compliments of ddp):

Do these in order and in safemode

Sorry for being such a newb .. but its been years since I've ever even used safe mode ... how do I get the computer to restart in safe mode ?

Keep tapping on the F8 key as the computer starts up - select safe mode from the list of choices

I can't access the internet for some reason while I am in safe mode is that normal ... if so how do i get all those programs while in safe mode ?

Ken,

I don't know if you are still around .. but I ran through all those programs you mentioned ... wow did that ever HELP ALOT! Shrink is running great again... ... I did run into another little bit of a problem though ... it's wierd ... I can't connect to msn ..yet the internet works fine ..except when I'm on the TD site I can't seem to access the page right off of the main page where I would input my bank info (I already made sure it wasn't just the site down...) ... also ..both the TD website & msn both work while in "safe mode with networking" ... but when I restart just normally.. I get an error message.

I also can't get into hotmail... I'm afraid maybe one of those programs I used wiped out something that I need for these things to work ... is it possible to get the items back without getting all the other crap back?> ... and its odd that these things don't work normally but do work in safe mode.. anyone know why that might be ?

hmmmm... Not sure why that is happening. Download FireFox and then use that to see if you can access hotmail and any other sites you're having problems with.
