With dvd43 in the background, i was able to use shrink for the wedding date but had a burn fail with nero. Is the problem with dvd43 or with nero?

dvd43 would not be the problem. What brand of media are you using and post your nero error log so we can find out the problem

I didn't save the message but it says "burn fail at 2.4X" also says the same after i tried burning again with 4x-- no other specifics. I used both fujifilm media and maxell.

nero stores the logs, post LAST section of your Nero log, which is in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar (thanks creaky)

This is what it said after the burn process started...
Write error
all writers idle, stopping conversion
conversion idle, stopping reader
Generating DVD high compatibility borders
Generating DVD borders completed successfully
Burn process failed at 4x (5,540 KB/s).

Since I've never used DVD43, I dont know if it is suppposed to take care of "the boy in the green shorts" in the Unreferenced Material.
If your doing the whole disc, then you may have to replace the Unreferenced Material with a still image in DVD Shrink.
If your doing just the movie only.... then this isnt your problem, and disregard my answer, and post a Nero log like ken_919 said.

I'm having problems backing this movie up as well.

DVD Decrypter gives me this message:

I/O Error!
Scsi Status: 0 x 02
Interpretation: Check condition

DVD Shrink gives me this message:

Data Error (cycle redunancy check)

Try cleaning the disk, or take it back and get another original. It is more than likely a bad disk as Decrypter should have not problem with this movie :)

burnjunky - Could you post a log file from Nero ?

To do so, go here: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero
Look for a file named "NeroHistory.log"
Open that file up and copy the last log in it.
Then paste it here.

(Don't forget to remove/delete your serial number from the top of the log file. It usually starts with "1A2.-....-.....".)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

chikin23 - As arnie said, most likely your disc is either dameged or scratched. A CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) error is DVD Shrink's and/or DVD Decrypter's way of telling you that it cannot read the disc (DVD). It is caused from the disc being to dirty (fingerprints, smudges, etc.) or being to scratched. First, try cleaning the DVD. You can try toothpaste, carwax, or pledge to lessen the severity of the scratches. (By no means am I saying that you will totally restore the DVD back to original condition, all your doing is just trying to get DVD Shrink to successfully read it.) If DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter still generates this error message, I suggest returning the original for a different copy.

Before you return it, try using the latest version of DVD Decrypter. The latest Version is Currently: Version 3.5.4.0 Get it here: http://mrbass.org/dvdrip/

Use DVD Decrypter to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").

Then use DVD Shrink to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk") - and select "VIDEO_TS.IFO" or the actual "VIDEO_TS" folder.

A good tutorial on how to accomplish this is located here: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45238

Just to confirm JMET's response, that is the way to do it. I just finished doing mine like that.

P4-3.0GHZ, 512PC3200 DDR SDRAM, 120GB Seagate HD, GeForce FX5950 Ultra 256MB DDR, Sony DRU710a 16x DVD-RW, NERO
