If I wanted to copy a game from the disc to my computer's HD, THEN transfer the game image from the CPU to my "PS2's HD".....how would I connect the 2nd HDD to my computer? Is there a piece of hardware that converts the IDE to be plugged into the USB? And what programs would be needed so my CPU will read the 2nd HDD? (I have Windows XP - Home)

Would that be possible.....multiple formating problems?

I know it would upload games faster that way.

My laser on my PS2 is not that great, and it takes a couple of trys for it to read back ups. Even then its a bit choppy while playing at times. Im just concerned about how well my PS2 will download backups onto its HDD via itself.

A quick response would be terrific

To connect the Ps2 hdd to the PC you will need to connect it to an IDE cable as a SLAVE drive (so you would take the header off the Ps2 to make it a Slave), you would then transfer the image of the game that is on your PCs hdd using WinHIP, Windows WILL NOT read the Ps2 hdd because it's a Ps2 file system and that is why you would use WinHIP.

You can use ps2 network card to connect the computer to the ps2, and then transfer the image there with hdl_dump. In order to get it working firstly get ftp working (There is a tute somewhere here) then transfer the hdl_dump surver usinf the ftp on to the memory card using the exploit, then you will be able to connect to the hd from the computer. Its a bit of work to get working, but worth it for later use.

Where can I get a hard drive for my PS2? Is there external USB solutions or only IDE?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks,

You can get a USB adapter if you don't want to open your computer case. Just google "IDE USB adapter" or "USB enclosure". Transferring via network is an option too. Use Independence exploit to load ps2dump client on PS2, then upload the image to PS2 from PC. This is a pretty technical process though, so if you don't know anything about networking topology or setting up an exploit memory card, i'd just go with the USB/WinHIIP option.

Take your hard drive out of the USB enclosure and put it in the PS2.

How do I configure the hard drive once it's in the PS2? I assume I have to format it?

How do I get my Windows PC to see the drive so I can upload a file to it?

Oddly enough, my hard drive will not fit my Sony Adapter, the connectors are correct, however the spacing i not alligned properly.
Can I just use the USB housing and plug the drive into the front of my PS2?
Is there any other program (free) , aside from HD Loader/Advance, that will allow me to configure the drive and set it up for use with my games?
Thanks in advance

honestly, using the usb thing is not worth it, its too slow, the IDE is the only way to go. So do this, there is a tute out there on google, on how to make a diffenent HDD fit in the adapter, you will have to take the cover off the network card out. As to istructions on how to get it to work with the pc, I will post that tonight. I have to get to my lecture now. Till then!

If you use USB, you will need USB Extreme boot disc (or corresponding ELF). It will be slower however. You can make your Network Adapter fit the hard drive by removing the metal plate. Here is a guide:
