Hello everyone,
i posted this problem in the nero section, and a member by the name of creaky has gone out of his way to help me ... however i still have no answer and noticed that this problem was not only for nero, but happened with any other program that i use.

this was my original problem that i posted
i have an internal AOpen DVD-RW in a external case that is hooked up to my laptop through the USB port.

In the last 2 days, my buffer level has been jumping like crazy anywhere from 10% - 90% constantly ... this has drastically reduced the write time of a dvd, and is really starting to annoy me to tell you the truth ... it was fine up until 2 days ago.

I've read many posts about making the IDE channels DMA and they all are. Now under the IDE controller lab in device manager there is also a Intel (R) 82801DB Ultra ATA Storage Controller -24CB ... now in Nero info tools it says this is where my DVD USB drive is connected.

I don't know if anyone has any ideas but this would help greatly ... i re-installed nero tons of times and also did an okay job of cleaning out registry ... kind of computer dumb as well but i catch on quickly ... thank you

--------
I have posted many of my logs, and lots of new problems ... basically it takes me over 2 maybe 3 hours to burn a disc ... this only took 20 minutes before, but all u see is the buffer level jumping from 30 - 96 constanly ...

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED ... SORRY IF THIS IS IN THE WRONG FORUM

FOR MY LOGS OF SOME BAD BURNS, U CAN LOOK AT
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/221182

THANKS AGAIN ... DESPERATELY NEED HELP

Just a question. Are you reading the disc your copying in 1 CD Drive and burrning it the same time on the burrner? If your reading and burning at the same time you will get this problem.

did you install any recent programs a few days ago before this problem started or do a windows update?

If so do you have windows XP on your laptop? If you do then do a systems restore back to a point you know your drive was working.

See if it clears up the problem. If it does more then likly it is somthing new you have installed that makes it do this.

Ok if you have windows XP you can restore your computer to a later date if it is enabled. Which by default it is so you probably can do a restore.

Yo get to the windows restore click on:

Start At the bottem left corner

then to all programs

then go to accessories in the list

then system tools in the next list

then click on system restore in that list.

It will give a dates you have made changes added programs updated windows and will let you go back to a certain point and restore it at that time. So try that. Choose a date before you started having problems and restore it to that date.

Let me know if this helped.

@Mort if you go to the link he has at the bottem of the first post it shows he has tried all that. But it dosent seem like he has done a system restore which could be a fix if he added a program or update that started giving him the problem he is having.

Try doing what I suggested 1st before doing a system restore.

On the other page he has tried that he even updated firmware. Thats why i think somthing was installed or updated that is causing the problem.

If it was working before then either the drive is going or somthing was instaled that is interfearing with the program or burrner.

have you scanned for virrues and spyware?

also if you remmber a program or update you have installed recently try to remove it and see if it works.

Scoober14, Its against forum rules to multipost the same question. You now have 2 groups of members giving you the same advice on the same problem. This is wasting our time when we could be helping else where.

sorry jerry ... i can delete the other one if you'd like ... first i thought it was a nero problem so i posted it in the nero section ... but once i looked into it more, i saw it was more than that ... so i decided to post in the dvd section, to see if there was anyone else that could help that wouldn't look in the nero section.

if you'd like me to delete the other post ... i will

Scoober14, I had the other thread closed. We can continue to help on this one. My guess is that you downloaded some type of virus or spyware that is still lurking on your system. What was you cpu usage in your task manager at bootup?? If its still running high then something is using your resources. You will need to locate and remove the trouble maker.

@scoober14,

If you believe that there is a possibility that your computer is infected with a virus, trojan or any kind of adware/malware, then try to do this. Go here, http://forum.iamnotageek.com/showthread.php?t=1819059447 - scroll down and first download "HiJackThis" and remember to download the "only suggested" programs mentioned, run them in order as told by the page. Or if you want to just run "HiJackThis", then just extract it and run it, then look for any names/software/program that you believe it is "not" one of yours (especially BHO), then "check" the name and have HiJackThis delete it.

NOTE: you must be very careful of what you check to delete.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Its OK if it jumps while doing something. If it was high at idle with just the desktop open then I would suspect something running in the background. Here is another good tool if you don't have it. Its called CWShredder which removes a good many trojans.

are you using the same media? maybe the media you have is bad. try diffrent media. if that dosent fix the problem then you have downaloded somthing that is interfering with the burrning program and need to find out what it is.
