well, i would personally suggest you stay away from them...here is a short compilation of WHAT you might be getting...

Hyundai DVD-R 4.7GB INFOSMART01. 4x (not good)

Hyundai DVD-R 4.7GB SKC Co.,Ltd. 4x (not good either)

Hyundai DVD-R 4.7GB TYG02....... 8x (has been determined that these are FAKE TAIYO YUDENS, STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS)

Hyundai DVD+R 4.7GB AML.....002 4x (good lord...no no no)

Hyundai DVD+R 4.7GB IS01....001 4x (another bad apple)

Hyundai DVD+R 4.7GB YUDEN000T02 8x (another prime example of FAKE TAIYO YUDEN media again, based on many reviews, not just 1)

my advice, if the price sounds too good to be true, more often than not, IT IS. you will get what you pay for and in this case...CRAP MEDIA~ :)

let me warn you about FAKE Taiyo Yudens...they are horrible, i have some myself and the inconsistency of them is as bad or WORSE than my dreaded CMC MAGs that i had nothing but coasters on few years ago.

i would NOT suggest you spend ANY of your hard earned $$ on this hyundai media...you will regret it in the long run

Hyundai cars, on the other hand, are pretty decent, not considered very good by motor enthusiasts, but, i can bet the automobiles of the same name are better than these media~ :)

Yep,with manufacturers like kivory666 posted, avoid them. That's too much money for crap media.

Hey kivory, I had a 2004 hyundai accent and it was a great car before my soon to be exwife got the front end ripped by a turning semi rig. You have no idea how much styrofoam they put into those cars, especially behind the bumbers.Styrofoam was everywhere! LOL

I can certainly vouch for fake ty's being utter appalling rubbish. Looks like hyundai should stick to making cars instead of rebranding garbage media. No-one would mind if they sold good quality media..

:) saugmon...yeah, my wife's mom used to drive a hyundai, she had a "fender-bender" too, so i saw first hand the styrofoam you speak of~ hahaha...scary how much is in there. styrofoam is pretty good in terms of packaging material for electronic components (such as computers, receivers, speakers, etc..) but in cars as well? hehe

:) valid point creaky buddy, while i doubt they are the same company, they SHOULD find something/market where they can offer a GOOD product, rather than making a poor product and selling crap using an otherwise reputable name

@dipset...i guess it's a general consensus that you should avoid those hyundais :)

What a bummer! I have a Hyundai car and it is EXCELLENT!!! Has 60,000 miles and has never had anything replaced but the tires and the oil.
They should use the same methods to make their media.

it ALWAYS comes down to a MONEY thing~ $$$ is all these companies see, they jump on the lowest bidder to manufacturer media and then reap the profits when they mass market their name (despite the low quality of media) to consumers... :(

Hyundais are good cars~ very dependable~ :) hehe

What sucks more is that cheapo crappola media costs more than the good stuff!

my '01 hyundai accent has been in 4 wrecks, 2 of which it should have been marked as total (now 5 shades of blue, lol). still drives well and sounds fine.

i echo the sentiments of hyundai and how they should use the same methods of car construction with their dvds.

Hello Kivory666,
Quote:
Hyundai DVD-R 4.7GB TYG02....... 8x (has been determined that these are FAKE TAIYO YUDENS, STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS)
When dealing with fake Taiyo Yuden for example, do they fake the MEDIA ID (TYG01 / TYG02) only, or when read in DVD Identifier, they also fake the name(Taiyo Yuden Inc) ?

In DVD Identifier v4.x the NAME, is it a database that displays Taiyo Yuden if it see TYG01, TYG02 etc.. or is it written on the media itself ?

So I guess to real test, and the only way to see if they are genuine or fake, is to look at those numbers in the inner ring then ?

Thanks !

@cougar

yes, the FAKE Taiyo Yudens FAKE BOTH the media ID as well as the origin of manufacturing~ :) your assumption is correct in that these shady smaller media manufacturers have devised a way to FAKE not only the MID coding, BUT also the NAME of the company when run thru a dvd identifier program...

so far, the ONLY sure fire way to ensure 100% AUTHENTICITY, is by the numbered coding ON THE INNER HUB of the actual disc in question.

hope that clarifies it up a bit for you, good luck getting your REAL TYs~ :)

inner hub :

GD00xxxx (4x dvd-r)
GG00xxxx (8x dvd-r)
TG00xxxx (8x dvd+r)
GH00xxxx (16x dvd-r)

etc...as with ALL the "xxxx" this will be a numerical value signifying the batch number of when the discs are produced~ hope that gives you a good idea of what to look for~

docTY~
