I saw that somebody else asked the questions, but the were know direct answers. I have a PS2 slimline version 70012. Does anybody know if this ps2 can play backups that are backed up on dvd+r's. I backedup a few games that needed know patches or special requirements, i put them on dvd+r's but they are not working. So i am asuming i am going to have to get a dvd-r burner, am i correct in saying this. Thanks for your help in advance.

Well.. it might depend on the games your trying to copy and what your using to play them too... swapmagic, modchip, that sorta thing.

I am using swap magic 3.6 with the flip top cover. The dvd+r's that i am using is fujifilm. I burned them at 4x speed. The game that i burned to test it out was time splitters: future perfect. I thought that i read that this game should just copy with no problems. I used Nero to do a dvd copy. I have a reader and i burner in my computer, so i read from one and burnt to the other.
To make sure that i am doing the swap thing correctly, i put the swap magic dvd disc, then when the loading screen came up, i opended the flip top cover and inserted the backup of time splitters. Then pressed X to load program. At the bottom it poped up not a valid ps2 disc. Any help would be apprecaited. thanks

You do have an aftermarket fliptop for it don't you, and not the original fliptop that comes with the slimline ps2?
Or do you have ghost switches? you need one mod or the other in order to play backups on your ps2.. you have to have some way of opening the ps2, inserting the backup disc and closing the lid again without the ps2 resetting.
Also, never heard of anyone trying an on the fly copy before - don't know if this will work!!
Most people use DVD Decrypter to read the iso to the hard drive and then use DVD Decrypter, Nero or some other burning program to burn the iso to disc.
hope that helped

Using DVD+R is fine and you don't need to write to DVD-R. Try writing to DVD+R at lower speeds such as 1x or 2.4x and it should then work

I got my ps2 chipped by a store, i have no idea what modchip it is (says "infinity v1.38 at startup") but i burnt GTA:VC on a DVD+R and firstly it worked. Then i reset the game, ejected the disc tray and let it go through to the browser section where i closed the tray. To my surprise it went to the red screen "wrong format" crap. I keep trying but i cant get it to work at all anymore. Anyone have a clue as to whats going on?

The slimline can play either +R or -R just fine.
I do all my games on -R and all my movies on +R
this seems to work really well in both of my systems
V12 and V7
The brand of media you use is a very important factor. Cheap-o
DVD's just don't seem to work well. Neither do Memorex.
TDK, Philips, TY, Ritek G04, Verbatim
Those seem to have the best compatibility as most people
here use one of those. I use Philips & TDK with great success.
DVD Decrypter would be your best bet for a making back ups
it works great, is free, and easy to use.
some things to note.
1. always shut down any programs running in the backround
like antivirus software and others.
2. always use good media, i prefer 8X speed DVD-R
3. Always burn them at 4X or lower. For best results set
DVD Decrypter write speed to 1X and it will burn at
the best speed for the media in the burner.

Yea those brands seem to be the best in my experience... I use Philips DVD+R's for my v7 ps2... dvd-r's... they work but... my ps2 just doesn't like them too much... so... you might wanna experiment with the media too... if it still isn't working...

All PS2 consoles will play DVD+R (high grade quality media such as TY, Fuji, Sony, Maxell, and Verbatim) if you can book type the DVD+R into a DVD-ROM format.
Any PS2 Version 4 - current will play both DVD-R/+R if you successfully backed up on high quality media at 4X. My PS2 is a version 9 and it plays both -R/+R flawlessly. However, I prefer the Maxell and Fuji 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" over any other -R brands though.

MY PS2 Ver 4 plays either DVD-R or DVD+R my question is if I use a DVD+R and set the Book Type to DVD-Rom does it make the game load any better or smoother? or since mine plays both it isn't going to make a difference
