It's useless, totally useless. With that being said, even if you successfully back up/burn the download iso of Swap Magic 3.6 into a DVD-R/DVD+R blank, you still need the "original Swap Magic 3.6" to boot it up. In addition, you'll need some kind of modification to your PS2 i.e. Flip Top, Slide Card, Mod Chip, etc. Now you get my drift..!!

Well if you had a older version of swap magic you could swap for a backup of 3.6 and you could get it free. Especially considering how crappy anything below 3.0 was.

Well. To senior alkohol let me say this:

Yes, the ps2 that my friend has is modded. I forgot which chip it is. I know he used the Xecuter2 for his Xbox. I heard the person that did the mod, modded someone elses xbox using grey colored masking tape (HOW FRIGGIN GHETTO IS THAT?) Anyway, both systems are modded and the person he goes to is rocking him lovely, financially. I don't want the money, but i wanted to hook him up. I work hard enough and get my own hook-ups
so i'm good. But, my friend he got kids to support, bills to pay and debts to clear. So, from one computer geek to anyone that reads this, hear my plea, I do this for the great of good and art of gaming. Do y'all feel me? HOLLA BACK!!!

@cocobro1,

If your friend's PS2 is modded with some kind of chip, why the need for Swap Magic? Swap Magic is good for Flip Top -- yes... that is what I have on my signature below. Now I'm trying to understand you, but unfortunately the more I read the more it gets complex. Seriously, I'm tring to help here, but I'm lost trying to comprehend why/how the XBOX and its Xecuter2 got in the pond now? Sorry, I don't know much about XBOX and its after market modifications.

I thought you were asking on how to apply/burn your "winrar" iso of Swap Magic 3.6? Well, quite frankly I can't really give you a true answer due to the fact that the communication is off a little bit, but that's ok. I guess you could try to "extract" all of it's files out from WinRar first, then put into a folder. In order for you to do that you'll also need to have WinRar on your Computer as well. Once you've successfully extracted all the Swap Magic files into the folder, you'll need to know what files they're in. Then you'll need to have DVD Decrypter to back up them files. <---- this is how I would back up the Swap Magic iso, if I understand you correctly. However, someone correct me if I'm wrong and perhaps it's because I've never download an ISO from any games and or Swap Magic that comes with WinRar file. However, I've had backed up more than 65 plus PS2 games from the original disc flawlessly.

Again, it won't do any good to you if you don't have the original Swap Magic 3.6 Plus disc, but the choice is yours.

holla..holla!
if they are rar files do this and write back.
if they are numbered files like game.001
then install WinRAR, then right click on the
first numbered file. chose "extract to" from the drop down menu
then extract it and you should get an ISO file
that you can burn.
Do that and tell me what file you get.
aslo your friend who you are doing this for will
of course need more than just swap magic
they will also need a flip top to play back ups.
that is the cheapest way to go. and without swap magic
he will not be able to play the swap magic back up you make anyway.
it is a back up and will still require a boot disc
to play it.
so best bet, and cheapest is to get this.

or

depending on which version he has.

OK. Let me explain this just right so that everyone can understand me. My friend has an PS2(Slimline) & Xbox modded. The New slimline PS2 needs swap magic dvd boot disc in order for it to boot DVD games since its a fliptop. So, I did a search for swap magic on a shareware system and got the swap magic 3.6 When I got it came as a rar file. It had some folders and files with wierd extensions on it. I haven't burned it to disc yet, because I wasn't sure how to burn these files to disc. Really all I need is to know the best tools for making backup copies for games (PS2&Xbox) and the right way to do it. My systems aren't modded yet, but hopefully after this I can try to do the PS2 one today. HOLLA BACK.

one more thing, my friend told me that he had his PS2 modded. But, To my understanding I heard that the slimlines didn't need mod chips, can someone explain that to me.

Why would slimlines not need modchips? Sony wouldn't just let people play copies on their ps2 without some sort of modification, that would just be stupid.
Plus you NEED a modchip or an original swap magic to play downloaded/backed up game. If you have downloaded swap magic it WON'T work without either an original swap magic or a modchip meaning its completely useless unless you want to upgrade your swap magic. Its pointless you at this stage needing to know what the files are because they won't work without a boot method.
Just to make sure you are totally clear, YOU CANNOT LOAD A COPIED SWAP MAGIC.

Hey man, i sincerely doubt you'll be able to copy a downloaded version of swap magic whether it be iso or whatever, i was told that their discs are specially pressed and cannot be copied and used but good luck anyway. I recommend you just buy the original considering its not really very expensive and is worth it when you need a backup of a game when the original is somehow destroyed.

people just don't seem to be getting the point here?
let's try this one more time to clear it all up
and end this post.
1. yes you can copy Swap Magic but it is pointless,
because you would need an original copy of Swap Magic
to load the back up(or downloaded) copy of Swap Magic
2. Slimline or older style PS2 or PSTwo WILL NOT play back
up games without modification. You need either a good mod chip
like DMS4 Pro, DMS4 Lite, or Matrix Infinity.
Or you will need Swap Magic and a flip top. Not the flip top
that is already on the slimline, but an aftermarket one that
will not reset the PSTwo when you open it to swap discs
or with the slimline you can get a magic switch or slimtool
which is another alternate method to stop it from reseting
3. your best bet for making PS2 back ups is DVD Decrypter
which you can get in the software section here
here is a tutorial for using DVD Decrypter
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html

i thought my post above was quite clear but it has become
obvious to me that people can't read.

you cannot use a copied swap magic disc. final.
you may get one off the net by whatever means you use. You can burn to disc and you can load it up onto the ps2 but it will not actually work.
The reason?
Well, when the makers of Swap Magic burn this program to disc they use a technique that forcefully places "bad sectors" onto the disc. Modern copiers such as the the ones universally used on pc systems are programmed to remove "bad sectors", so when you recieve a copied version and burn to disc it has burnt without the bad sectors. Is that English?

The difference is visually strikingly glaringly clear, when you compare an original swap magic disc to a copied version, and until you have an original copy of swap magic one you will not understand, if you do not know what bad sectors are

I understand perfectly which brings my next question, Is there any other boot up program that can play backed-up PS2 games on modified system that can be downloaded other than swap magic?

You could do the knife trick, but its fiddly and you could easily damage your ps2. Google knife trick it should come up.

There is one way if You want to write the CD with the bed sectors from the iso file.I have been trying it and its working.First U must instal Deamon Tools and do a Virtual Drive then U must emulate the Iso file in D.Tool like U entered the real CD and then with some program like older version of Nero burn (before 5.2) U have to do a exactly copy of the CD with copy entire disc.Thats the way I do it.

Yes the way Magig swap works is realy interesting first its almost a bootable disc but sony have many tricks to cheat the cheaters.Furst the mechanism of openig CD/DVD emites its own signal wich when you open it checks the CD it is the right copy. The ways You can cheat it are several. One of most easiest is with swap tool

As You see in the picture the disc is not the only tool in Magic Swap 3. There is one lame way wich I tried but its dangerous if you dont know what are you doing.is to open the PS2, upward but there is a security cabel like in the bombs in films if its broken or cuted you can forget about plaing on the console.I used that way only to check the CD it is write ok.And You can play games by changing them how they are in the PS2. The third way is shown in this page where is shown the protecton cable from case.its some kind of flip top cover like in PSOne or the Slim Version
http://www.swapmagic3.com/Swap_Magic_Feature.htm
http://www.swapmagic3.com/Swap_Magic_FAQ.asp
but the best way is to buy that tool for 3 eur or less
http://discoazul.com/en/product408/product_info.html
and the real problem is from where you can download cd's and how to write them which is speciality of my frien Shabranihdo.

I just got SWAP MAGIC 3.6 with the slide tool(how cheezy), and I got a new game last night, and did use DVD Decrypter in the ISO mode to read the file and saved it to my hard drive, and then went to ISO (Write) and burned it on a blank DVD-R and when I tryed to play it uisng swap magic DVD it didn't work. I am using swap magic w/ the slide Tool, and the PS2 said "not a PS2 disc". Can you please help me, thanks. Sometime it is better getting knowledge from other people...

first off. i have been told many times and it is true. you cannot make a copy of swap magic work!! period. it is a pressed disk, meaning , any dvd burner , i don't care how advanced. it cannot recreate the pressed disk. ok,
to jcblaze1: make sure you burn the .mds file, not the iso file. the mds file is small, it is like a link to the bigger iso, but it helps but all the stuff together right. and if that don't help, then did you know that when you use slide card... you have to use it 2 times, once to open the disk tray and once to close it. i myself thought that you just push in the disk tray and press x. the little disk tray pin has to be push back over to the spot where you first found it. and also, some games won't boot with hitting x, hit square instead. hope i was some help.

sorry to double post, but the only way the message screen "not valid ps2 disk" comes up is if swap magic is not even running. the ps2 main screen is in charge of that. when you put in swap magic press reset. when the ps2 first starts to boot, you will see the big " Playstaion 2" logo and the cool whompt sound. notice how the logo looks when you start it. now put in the swap magic and press reset, notice that the Playstaion 2 is greyed out a bit and looks different. yes, now the swap magic is working. just wait till it gets to the load rom screen, don't do anything else. wait till it stops spinning.... now use slide card. ok, if this all dose not fix the problem, well you need more help then i can give and i have backed up 28 ps2 games successfully and they all work on swap magic.

Yepper,I can back Alkohol up on the Swap Magic issue.I have swap magic 3.6,I use it on my Slimline Ps2 ,its striking appearance are the rings on the readable side which gave me the feeling that this would be one disc that wouldnt get through Alcohol 120, and sure as eggs,Alcohol failed to read it.After getting a read error when dumping the disk I decided that maybe I should take more care when handling the disc (To avoid scratches etc).
