i have got some verbatims dvd-r MCC 02RG20,
burned a ps2 game on one of them, the burn went fine as far as i know
loaded the game, and the loading is slow, then stops at a certain point
i have used 5 0r 6 disks of this batch, and to be honest, rarely use them at all (ritek man myself),and have noticed, the others, albeit boot ok,the loading times have dropped

there is a mark on the disk that looks like a finger print, but it cannot be cleaned off
now,i do suffer with buffer fluctuations,(buffer will empty, then re-fill),but the burn never fails,so all is good
anyone else suffer with these marks,as i am trying to determine whether the burn procedure has caused this,or whether the batch is bad
i have checked through the last of the disk's,and al look ok
so i guess it was a bad burn, but trying to determine what caused it ,is a different matter

I have always had a similar problem with verbatim media. This seems to happen when I burn at full or higher speeds. If I burn a 16x rated disc faster than 8x, I will get 2 out of 3 burns that will have spots. If I burn the dual layer ones faster than 2.4x, 1 out of 2 will have spots, too. This doesn't seem to ever happen with taiyo yuden discs though, at any speed(based on personal experience). Even though I have this problem with verbatim discs, their DL media seem to give me the better results when compared to other DL brands(as long as I burn at 2.4x that is).

What's the speed rating on the discs you have? How fast are you burning them?

Back in the day when I used the 8x verbatims, I would get the results I mentioned earlier when I burned them at 4x or higher.(percentage of burns with spots go up the faster I burn no matter what the speed rating was when using verbatim media) I have to say that the verbatim discs that I have burned successfully over the years are still working flawlessly,(over 200 discs, around 1/5 of my dvd backups) so they seem to hold up when you get a successful burn.

If you are content with verbatim media, you should get higher speed rated ones. The 16x discs seem pretty stable when burning them at 8x. Good luck.

I've used something like 1500 verbs (8) burnt at 4x and a few 16x also burnt at 4x, from a variety of places. Country's discs used vary between india, singapore and taiwan. Sounds like you've had a bad batch.

edit - most of the Verbs i've used were -R, though am slowly starting to switch to +R's..

sounds like faulty discs within an otherwise decent batch, but im leaning towards the overall "bad batch" opinion too~ i don't have any experience burning games, so, i can't comment there and i ALSO have used 1,000+ Verbatim MCC003 (8x dvd+r) and a few hundred MCC004 (16x dvd+r) with great results too, i only have 100 of the MCC02RG20 that you are using, so my experience in the DVD-R Verbs are much more limited. :)

i have come to conclusion, the batch was faulty, and will be asking for a refund
just burnt another 20 odd ps2 games, and all were good, albiet some were slow loaders :(

:)..makes me happy....hehe,as i am not a great user of verbs,as they are too expensive, but as the price had come down on svp,i'd thought i'd give them a go.

thanks guys

Svp are doing verb +r (8x)in tubs of 10 for £2.49 each, just bought 100 the other day, might go for say 300 now I got paid. Don't need any but you can never have enough verbs. I'd get some more ty but I've already got sooo many verb x8 -r in stock, can't move for tubs. Spose I could think about it..

Hmmm?

This happened to me with a test burn last week.

The problem was that I had actually touched the surface of the disc with my finger. This left a slightly oily mark on the disc. I didn't notice it.

When I finished burning, I thought I'd just wipe it off, but low and behold I had a finger print mark in the dye. Scanned it and had crazy errors.

Maybe this is your problem?
