Using God of War on PS2 HDD with HD Advance

I've read quite a few threads regarding God of War but not one states a fix for playing GOW on a PS2 HHD(Maxtor 160gb) using HD Advance 2.0(no mod chip installed). Now I've tried using HDl_dumb and was able to copy the game to the PS2 HDD. But the game still froze at the sce screen. Would I need to change this from a DVD9 to a DVD5 in order to get it to work properly? Then use hdl_dumb or even by pass this and use HD Advance to load it back on my PS2H HDD?
Any suggestions?

There's a few threads that tell you how to get it working on a Ps2 hdd, hdadvance 2.0 can not read DVD9 you will have to download a patched version of hdloader to be able to play DVD9 games. My copy of GoW would not work on hda even when it was on DVD5 which is odd but the patched hdl fix that problem for me. Do you have swap magic?

I don't have swap magic but I can get it. But I thought this only works for a flip top? I have that standard PS tray slides in and out. Do you know where I can get the patch for HD Advance 2.0? Will it work on the latest version 3.0?
