Hi,

I´ve got an annoying problem. A person gave me a copy of a DVD Movie, which works great in any DVD player (homevideo player). BUT, now when I´m about to copy it for a friend of mine it appear as empty on my PC´s. I´ve tried it in both a laptop and on the ones in my sig.

I don´t know how it is copied, but it´s written on a 4x Memorex DVD+R. I´ve tried a couple of programs but nothing works:
CloneDVD2 (translated from Swedish)
Error opening videofile from
E:/
E:/VIDEO_TS.IFO:21 could not open file

DVD Shrink ver. 3.2
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
No disc in drive
Drive not ready

DVD Decrypter ver. 3.5.4.0
Device Not Ready (Medium Not Present)
Nero ver. 6.3.1.17 (Disc Info)
No disc inserted or drive not ready, please try again

What´s going on here?

Thanks in advance
/Andreas

Do you know your current firmware version of your dvd-rom/writer drive(s)?

Try this: Place your disc in your drive, open up DVDD in Mode/Iso/Read...
Right-click on your drive, and choose Refresh...

Here's a pic to show you what I'm referring to... (my dvd burner's the same as yours):

If that doesn't work, the disc may have some scratches/smudges that is preventing it to be read correctly by your drive...hold your disc facing the light and tilt it on a certain angle (i.e. - 45 degrees) to see if there are scratches/smudges... If there are, try cleaning it...

I´ve tried about everything I know of and the disc isn´t smudged or scratched.

My recorder have an old JS02 firmware. Haven´t had any problems with it, therefor I haven´t upgraded it. What´s the best source today for firmware upgrades? I see You have JS07.

The funny thing is that the DVD works great in both my Pioneer DV535 and my Yamaha DVD-S557, but not under Windows (where it´s only reported as blank)???

This might work: place your disc in your drive, open up my computer, place your mouse over the dvd drive (don't click yet), then right-click on your drive and choose Explore, then look for the VIDEO_TS folder...

If this doesn't work, you could download the latest firmware:

The latest one available is: JS0C

http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/download.htm

RPC1.org has two recent updates on our burners...

JS0C: http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/WebFW/SOHW-1673S/DR16JS0C.zip

*Beware that this could cause more harm than good, create a back-up of your computer state under System Restore*

This is why Memorex is quite popular for being known as Memosux, or I called it "Shitmorex". Next time tell your friend to "don't" ever back up any dvd movies on Memorex media again, if you value the quality and longevity of the back up copies.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Thugs121>>> Thanks for the links. After I´ve updated the fw to JS0C the drive doesn´t spin all cd´s/dvd´s up as much as before. Before it sounded like a jet-engine when a disc was inserted.

Now I was able to read the dvd for the first time, but when I inserted it again it appeared as empty. Now it´s intermitent... Atleast I´ve been able to make a backup of it :)

I´ve always used Memorex discs before and have never ever had any problems with either reading or writing to them. I guess I´ve burned ~500 cd´s and ~50 dvd´s without any errors. This is the first time I´ve encountered a problem with them.
