Hi all,
I recently purchased a 50 pack of Ritek DVD-R 8x (RITEKG..05) for my emprex burner, (though I never had a problem until recently, with GQ dvd-r disks I'd thought I'd try something new)
After looking at the compatible Disks for my burner I think I bought the wrong ones.
It states I can use Ritek DVD+R 8x (RITEK-R03-001) or Ritek DVD-R 4x (RITEKG04....) ....
So my question is (before I open this pack of disks) Should I mail them back in for an exchange and get the dvd+r 8x or can I use the dvd-r 8x and just burn at an 4x speed?
I hope this wasn't too confusing :)

Here's a few MID codes from GQ dash media:
GQ (Great Quality) DVD-R 4x (LEADDATA01..)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD-R 4x (PRINCO......)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD-R 8x (TYG02) ??FAKE??

Sounds like crappy media,so that may be why you were having trouble with that GQ media.

Ritek g05 media should be very good.Majority of issues is because burners firmware needs to be updated for it. The firmware is the most critical aspect as to what it is allowed to burn and how fast.

What is the model # of your emprex burner and also its firmware version?

Have you burned ritek-g04s successfully and had very good playback on stand alones?

If it states g04 is ok,then the g05 should be ok. I keep all my burns at 2.4x or 4x on all my 8x media, despite of my benqs firmware allowing it to burn at 12x and 16x.

My benqs love the ritek-r03s,but I haven't tried any g-05s.They do prefer the plus format.

Hi, thanks for responding,
usually I use the DVD-R 8x by gq I think I just got a bad batch because the last 5 disks recording was choppy.
the emprex model is dvdrw 1108 and I just installed the latest filmware today B430
I never used ritek before. When I first recieved my burner I tried Fujifilm DVD+R 8x (YUDEN000T02) which only 5 disks worked. I also tried Maxell DVD+R 8x those didn't work at all. Since I double checked the list this time I'm hoping the ritek will work.
So do it really matter if it says 8x or 4x as long as I keep the burn at 4x ? I never tried the + format again since the fujifilm and maxell.

@ zen_rose hi :)
as saugmon says yes you can use the G05s very good media
just because the disc is rated 8x doesn't mean you have to burn at 8x, and again as saugmon has said we all burn at 2x to 4x max, those speeds reduce the chance of errors
as you can see by my sig i use nothing else
@ saugmon hi :)
GO5s every bit as good as G04s. but like yourself i am now useing R03s and booktypeing to -rom as i run out of my stock of 4s and 5s

Ritek G05s are VERY good in my personal experience as well, 500+ flawless burns on them. i am just the opposite of saugmon, i used plenty of the G05s with great success, but have not even tried the Ritek-R03s DVD+R yet~ (not even 1) LOL, when it comes to DVD+R i stick ONLY with my MCC003/MCC004 (Verbatim 8x and 16x respectively) and YUDEN000T02 (8x Taiyo Yuden media). :)

that's just me...but, the Riteks G05s have been good to me as well~ :)

good luck
