Is there any way possible to make a copy of the swap magic 3.6 disks(DVD/CD)? I know it says that it cant be done, but is there a Program or a drive that can read and write the errors of the boot sectors in the disk?
I just bought the disk 2 days ago, and I dont want to possibly get it damaged (why do you care what I do with my copy anyways :P). I have a NEC 3500 DVD burner. I use verbatim DVD-R. I can use Alcohol 120%, Nero, DVD decyptor. All Im wondering is if it is possible to make a working copy of the swap disk.
well, if you alreay know that everyone says no
then why are you asking?
Yes, it can be be backed up.
but it would be a back up like any other game so
you would need a boot disc to play it. (aka swap magic)
so it would be useless to do.
If you are technically curious, then here is the reason it won't work: The purpose of the Swap Magic disc is to tell the PS2 a legal disc is in the drive. The PS2 does this by checking an area on the inside of the disc called the "Burst Cutting Area" for a special code that is present on PS2 originals. The problem is that the laser in consumer level CD/DVD writers can't write in the BCA. Therefore, while you can backup the data contents of the Swap Magic disc, the most important part (the BCA) still can't be duplicated. So your backed up Swap Magic disc will be like a gun without the bullets.
