I just bought a 50 pack of JVC DVD-R 1X-8X for $13.99.Hopefully I'll have good luck with them.I've used tons of different media, both cheap and expensive and the only thing I've not had luck with was Sony DVD+R.

gcd04- I have the same burner as you. I use the Sony 8x+R's (burn at 4x) that are MADE IN JAPAN. They are simply great in this burner. Stay clear of the MADE IN TAIWAN ones as they are not as good quality.

What is the media ID on the JVC's?

2.4 Celeron;512k ram; 80gig HD; 60gig HD; Windows XP(SP1).
Sony DRU-710A (BYX4)
DVD Shrink/DVD Decrypter.
TYG02;YUDEN002;MCC blanks.
Favorite Media: Sony 8x+R(MADE IN JAPAN)

Laptop: 1.4 Ghz;256k ram; 40 gig HD;Windows XP
NEC ND-6650A Burner

JVC 8x DVD-R could depend, i have NOT tried it personally, but, you could be lucky (if these ARE in fact GENUINE Taiyo Yudens- i am not sure unless i see the actual coding ON THE DISC, the media code means NOTHING nowadays, could possibly be fake)

JVC DVD-R 4.7GB TYG02....... 8x (if REAL Taiyo Yudens, definitely a good buy~!, i do not know the authenticity unless i see the actual disc)

JVC DVD-R 4.7GB MJC ME...... 8x (ouch, not good if you ask me, most of these are made in malaysia...not good quality)

if you found the ones that are MADE IN JAPAN, there is a decent possibility you got genuine TYs..if not, then you got some fake TYs if it's made in taiwan/malaysia/any other country that is NOT japan~

let us know~ :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

They work great! Excellent burns on every disc I've used so far! However,I've had no luck with them on my PS2 games though.

@ gcd04 hi :)
you can get away with burning video on crap media with a bit of luck, but when it comes to backing up PS2 games you've got to use the best media ie. Ritek...Taiyo Yuden....Verbatim
burned at the slowest speed you can. and that means as low as 1x if you can

I have used JVC DVD+R and have used at least 3 50 count cakes without any problems. Bought them at Fry's Electronics for under $20.00.

i've come across the MJE ones in one or two threads recently, if i remember it was in Nero logfiles where the media was one of the only culprits.

I've used tons of media, and so far this media has worked almost as well as any I've used.

Why do you say ouch about the media? I'm certainly not a pro at this.Shall I ask, what's wrong with the coding?
