The Thing is if you didn"t add any effects to the Video it shouldn"t have taken so long to render, it should have maybe taken 10 minutes because it should not re-encode if there are no effects...

Maybe the Problem is that you are useing Muxed Mpeg-2/Vob files, Try demuxing your Mpeg-2/Vob files into seperate audio and Video files and add them to the Time Line seperately and then maybe it won"t re-encode the whole File....

There are other Timeline Mpeg editors but they don"t have fully woring demo"s available and Most don"t support AC3 audio...I have Both the WMVW 2003 and the 2005 Version and TMPGEnc Mpeg editor and M2-Edit Pro v5.0 all of which can edit Mpeg-2/Vob files.....

If you Clean out your registry you should be able to install the WMVW2005 again....

Cheers

Hi Minion, I just got a reply from Womble multimedia. They are suggesting that I should export with "automatic" mode, rather than using a Template, which ends up re-encoding.
I just did a test and it worked. I got a 90 minute movie exported in 13 minutes. Trouble is it stopped ten minutes before the end. So I'm looking at splitting it in two.
I'll do more tests, check back with Womble, and then let you know what's happening.

Thanks

Well I could have Told you That....If you select a Template that has Different Specs than your Source Files then it has to Encode your Source Files to Match the Template Specs....In automatic Mode it uses Smart Rendering so it only re-encodes what has been Changed...

I knew you were doing something wrong as In the Years I have been useing Womble it has never re-encoded my Files...

Well I"mm glad you got it Figured out.....Cheers

Well, I'm sure you could have told me that Minion. Unfortunately there's always going to be a huge gulf between technical experts like yourself and newbies like me. The problem is that technical experts always seem to assume a level of knowledge in newbies that they actually haven't got. Consequently they find it difficult to explain something in easy-to-understand language. And the newbie really has trouble framing the question properly, usually leaving out what he thinks are unimportant facts that eventually turn out to be the nub of the problem.
But we got there in the end, and I'm very grateful that you stuck with me.
Now that I know what I'm doing,I think I could write a pretty simple idiots guide to the process, and I guess I owe it to the next idiot in-line after me to do so.
I'm going to drop $50 on Womble too, because I can highly recommend this programme now.

I think I found the right thread. I'm new at this but from reading your responses I guess I need to use mpeg2vcr to converto VOB files to MPEG2 files. What are the pros and cons of converting the VOB files to AVI files for editing and then converting them to MPEG2, DivX or even VOB files. Also if I do decide to go the AVI route what software do I use. By the way I'm using Pinnacle 9 as my editing software, is that a decent software.

The Reason why you don"t want to convert VOB fo AVI to edit and then Back to Mpeg-2 to put back on to DVD is that every time you convert a Video file you Loose a LOT of Quality so you should convert your Files the Least ammount of Times , Preferably Only one if at all...

If you used a Native Mpeg-2/VOB editor you wouldn"t loose any Quality and the rendering would Take Minutes as Opposed to many Hours and something like "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard" can do most anything that Studio 9 can do were editing is Concerned....

Greetings all. I am a total newbie when it comes to any of this. Here is my question. I have a dvd with a live performance by a band I like. I want to take the sound from the dvd, and convert it over to an mp3.

Is there a quick and painless way of doing it? I realize I have to "demux", can anyone recomend where I should start?

Thanks in advance!
