Alright, please before anyone flames on me here, please understand i have no backgroud at all in Console modding at all.

Well my cousin recently gave me his PS2 (not the slim version), which is supposedly chipped. In order for me to play copied games i use a DVD called "Swap Magic 2.0 Dvd Version" and insert it into the cd tray, hit reset and hold it down until the dvd loads up and says "insert CD" then when i release the reset button the tray shoots out and i load the backed up game into the tray and it'll go back in on it's own in about 4 seconds. After it retracts the tray i hit [x] and it's supposed to load.

Well i bought midnight club 3: DUB edition, copied an ISO using dvd decrypter and burned it using the same program onto a BJ brand dvd, and it worked for 2 days, then for some reason it won't load up anymore. The ps2 just makes this same loading sound as if something is wrong. The Swap magic dvd works on the other games he gave me with the system, but for some reason won't work on Midnight club, or Headhunter Redemption. Mind you the original games still work so i'm totally stumped as to what to do...

Thanks a ton in advance,
-Jason Lee

ok so i figured it would help to know what type of chip i had, so i took it apart. I found the chip and i'm going to try and describe it... It has a small black box with 8 wires coming off it, 4 on each side opposite from each other. One of the wires goes to this cylinder looking device that says "f50v" or something like that. There seems to be one cable that isn't connected to anything, which might be the reason why it's not working. the black box also says "12C502A" but the other lines i cannot make out...

Anyone know what type of chip this is? I have pictures but i don't know how to post them on the forum, i can email them to someone if they want.

O yea i have a Version 3 PS2

Thanks again
Jason Lee

Sounds like it isn't modded at all, and you just have swapmagic, which should enable you to play backups anyway.

well there's definitely a mod chip in there, or something of such. But i keep trying swapmagic and it don't work... just wonder but can you back up a swapmagic dvd? My cd/dvd's tend to get scratched up so i back them all up on computers.

alright so i found out the chip i have is the Neo 2.2 and i re-soddered the loose cable to the proper location. I also had to remove the faceplate to the cd tray in order to use a card slider in order to properly run SW and get the game to work. I also rebacked up the games at a speed of 1x and it worked out alright. The loading is a bit slower, but it'll do for now.

Thanks for the response daniel_g

To reply to the second question, since swapmagic is a pressed disc, like ps2 original games, you can't use backups of it without a mod, but since you already have a modchip in there, why bother with swapmagic?
