After a recent Windows XP update ( I am running XP with SP1), Shrink cannot open DVDs. The Movie name shows up correctly in the Open DVD Disc Box but on clicking I get an error message:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to read Drive "E:/"
Incorrect Function

DVD decrypter will only recognise the drive when the drive is open ( Disc not in)If the disc is then inserted will decrypt as usual.
Shrink will then work on the decrypted file from the hard drive, but this seems a long way around!
I have Defragged the drive and uninstalled/reinstalled both programs but with no change.
These programs have always worked flawlessly with my current hardware setup.
I wonder if I am having a problem caused by a windows update or by my recently installed Microsoft Antispyware Beta1.
Has anyone any ideas??
Thanks
Keith

Here is some info on your error from Digital Digest.
Quote:
Failed to read file - Incorrect function

Error code ver 3.2:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
Failed to read file "X:\ "
Incorrect function

Solution:

a) This is a known issue between some backup softwares (including DVD Shrink) and DVDs recorded on a set-top.
b) Bad IDE cables. Credit: Maynard
c) If you can't read with your reader/burner and you have the problem with all DVDs - try to reinstall it. Kill the device in Windows and restart the PC. Credit: psi2244
You can try a system restore back to before you installed your update, if the problem persists then tou may want to try uninstalling your drives and then letting windows redetect them. Here is a site that talks about DMA settings but the procedure is the same.
