Hi

Just wondering if anyone could advise me? I bought a Sony DVD handycam but unfortunately had my laptop stolen with the software disc. I contacted Sony but they are asking $120 for the software CD. After looking at some submissions it appears that the software isn't that good anyway. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can access and edit the videos? The editing software with XP dosen't recognise the videos which seem to have .VOB .BUP and .IFO file formats. This is the first chance I've had to use the camera and would be grateful for any help or suggestions. Many thanks

PS thanks for posting advice from uniique1

If your computer has DVD support, your player should open a .VOB file by clicking it. Since a movie is a set of VOBs, it should automatically search the following as soon as the 1st atopped (i.e. VTS_01_2.VOB after VTS_01_1.VOB). Try it.
Is this the problem?
Has your PC DVD (VOBs) suport(i.e. has it a DVD reader)?
Try opening WMP (or install the very good BSPlayer) and open (maybe double-clicking is enough) the 1st of the VOBs. What happens?

Thanks for that. I am able to see the videos but my current software isn't able to recognise them to edit them consequently every time I play them all of the files run in to each other as you suggested. I am looking for some recommendations about what software would be best to use to access these files and edit them possibly convert them into mpegs or some other format. Sorry if I wasn?t clear in the first posting.

It depends on what do you want to do.
1) VOB --> MPEG-1 VCD: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd2vcd_with_smart_dvd2av...
2) VOB --> MPEG-2 SVCD: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd2svcd_with_tmpgenc.cfm .
3) VOB --> DVD : author with 'DVD shrink' (you can put compression=0, to make an authored set withoung losing quality, if you're able to burn it whole (usually DVD Shrinkis used to turn a dual - layer DVD into a single - layer one and it makes it by lowering the average bitrate of the VOB set).
