My problem appears to be only with CloneDVD, but I don't see a forum especially for that program. I only see forums for Shrink, Decrypter and rat.

I have been using CloneDVD in conjunction with AnyDVD for over a year now. I love it, as I have 2 drives, I can simply insert the movie I want to backup and insert the blank and 20-30 minutes later out pops my backup copy. The interface is easy and the program delivers good quality.

In the past year I have backed up almost my entire DVD collection, about 140 discs so far......not a single problem.

Let me start with my equipment specs, as these are vital to understand that this is a new problem.

Sony Dual-Layer burner
Sony DVD +R single layer blanks
Sony Progressive Scan DVD player rated for use with +R, -R, R/W, CDR, JPEGs, even Windows Media Player files.

None of this equipment has changed at all.........

Last week I bought Sin City, backed it up and put it away. A couple days later we went to watch it and the DVD player wouldn't recognize the disc. I put it in the computer and it recognized it and began playback. I checked the menu functions and loopbacks for the senak peeks I cut, everything worked....so it wasn't the disc. I pulled out the original disc, the retail one, and it played in the DVD player just fine. So it wasn't a bad disc out fo the box.

I got curious, and started playing with the backed up disc, and to make a long story short, I found when I filtered it back into Clone that while I had removed everything except the main movie and menus, it was now showing about 7 additional files, listed at 00:00 seconds, or 00:05 seconds with no audio. I have no idea where these came from. So I put in a R/W blank and ripped the movie from the backed up disc (not the new retail one), stripping off those files, to the R/W.

I then put the R/W in the DVD player............and it worked!!!!

So now I put the R/W into the computer again and put a standard DVD +R blank in the burner. Again, Clone shows those same 7 files that I cut off!!!! They were back!!!

I de-selected them again, and ripped form the R/W to a new +R blank and then put that new blank into the DVD player.

It worked.

I thought this might just be some freaky thing with Sin City, but have had this same problem now with EVERY disc I have tried to back up since. the only way to get a useable back up copy is to rip the movie to a R/W disc, then rip from the R/W to a +R. I even tried just ripping from the malfunctioning +Rs to a new +R....that doesn't work.....it has to be filtered onto a R/W first. It should be noted too that I mostly use my R/W for data, so they are cheap Great Quality brand....and they play fine.

It's driving me nuts. Sure, I can just use the R/W trick and not make anymore coasters, but not only is this just a work around without addressing the problem, but it more than doubles the time it takes to backup discs, since my R/W are only 2.4 speed.

Has anyone ever experienced this or had this problem?
