thanks for helping if any one can

ok i have burned for a while but all of a suddin i have been getting writing errors clonedvd2 said of course bad media.
i have been doing nothing any different but i put like 6 movies on my hard drive because i thought it would be better than useing dvdxcopy to burn disc to disc and i needed 2 copys of each so i thouhgt that would be better but since i done this :( every thing has started to crap out to the point i just wont to start all over with my computer to see if that works.
this is what i done used alcohol 120% to make a image of these disc then i have tryed to burn off of a virtual drive with every program i can think of dvdxcopy shrink dvdclone2 some times shrink gave me 2 of the ring 2 but the rest are still being stupid last nihgt just to see i used 5 dvd in a row with dvdclone2 just to see i used -r +r nothing worked so i am trying to see if any one else has ever had this problem and what should i do to fix this thanks

I'm guessing you have windows xp.

Go into your device manager for IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers:

Open up the tree
Double click primary/click advance setting:

This should be in DMA or UDMA if available

Do the same to both primary and both secondary ide controllers.

See if any of them are in pio mode, this sounds like it may be your problem.

If one or several of those controllers are in pio mode, then uninstall that controller/s and reboot. Only do 1 controller at a time if you have more than 1 in pio mode.Windows should automatically hook up those controllers into dma/udma mode.

Notice: If you get about 5 or 6 burn errors in a row, windows will automatically revert your ide controllers to pio mode, for safety reasons.

I hope this helps.I don't know anything about dvdclone2 and xcopy.

idied2day - Check your DMA settings - How ? do this -> Go to Control Panel> System> Hardware Tab> Device Manager> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers> Right Click Primary IDE channel (and Secondary IDE channel after you finish with Primary)> Properties> Advanced Settings Tab> Transfer Mode or click here to learn.

Do the above from both "Primary & Secondary IDE channels".

I (We) and you need to look at whats in both "Transfer Mode" and "Current Transfer Mode". Screen shot below is what I'm talking about.

You can also look here for some other solutions: http://sniptools.com/vault/getting-back-to-dma-mode-in-windows-xp.htm

If it is in "PIO" mode. Click the "Driver" tab, and uninstall the driver. Then reboot. Upon rebooting windows will automatically reinstall the driver and it should go back to "DMA" mode.

"Not Applicable" just means there is not a device (drive) connected to that channel.

Primary's will usually be in a higher UDMA mode (Usually your hard drives).

Secondary (Usually your DVD-ROM/burner drive) will be on the "Secondary" IDE channel and will usually top out at UDMA 2.

For the one that says ULTRA DMA Mode 2, try uninstalling the driver and then rebooting.

If everything is "going great", by all means leave everything the way it is then.

@idied2day -

thought your username seemed familiar - you had raised similar problem here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/226216 but hadn't yet got a resolution, you should really wait for help before opening further threads or type something like 'bump' as a reply to your own thread, it gets confusing for those trying to help you and must be confusing for you when you get replies coming in.

have answered that thread anyway..
