I haven't checked my Verbatim labels, but I heard some of the 8X DVD-Rs are made by Moser Baer in India even though the manufacturer ID code is still MCC02. Be careful about ordering online. Not that I think Moser Baer is terrible, but Memorex uses Moser Baer and the cheapest makers possible - CMC, Infodisc, etc. - so it's actually Memorex's bad reputation which gives me a negative opinion of Moser Baer.

Put that bad opinion to rest.
I've used many Moser Baer Verbatims (Digital Movie Disc) and I have not had a problem with any of them.
The thing is that Moser Baer uses MCC Stampers, dyes and machinery that is all shipped in my MCC. Moser Baer just runs the process but its to MCC specs.
These are good discs in my opinion. Just outsourced by MCC to MBI.

I think its just a case of everything in manufacturing these days (I should know, worked in factories all me life). Demand goes up so they start subbing work out elsewhere.. not a problem at first, but when the big boys at Mitsubihi realise how much money they make on Indian verb's compared to Taiwanese verb's, thats when to worry.
Cheaper production costs = Move production
Move production = (eventually) Lower quality.

Hmm?
Don't know what I am doing right with my Taiwan made and Indian made MCC's but I have not had a problem with these 4x digital movies at all.
BTW, Creaky I have stepped up to a burner as well as my set top and this media is great in both. I've burned them with Decrypter as well as Nero. Both were fine.
I can not Kprobe as I have an NEC, but the surface scans and CD-Speed tests have been excellent.
I see it like this...
No matter what brand (maker) you get there are going to be flawed batches. Just stick with the proven leaders and 95% of the time you will get quality media. Verbatim is one of the best.
Ty's are no different. I've read posts where people have had horrible results with TY's as well. Doesn't mean this manufacturer is crap. Means a bad batch every now and then, but most times on all media its USER Error.
While big business tends to just want to grab the money, Verbatim seems to want to make sure its product is A-plus. I am sure that even though a few e-mails go unanswered that they are getting the message an so isn't Moser Baer and CMC.
My two cents.

The one thing that does bug me about media is where you get say datawrite discs with an mcc media code. Imy experience with such discs has not been good. Believe me, I want to believe that the quality of those datawrites is assured by the mcc code, but I'm not sure it is. I'm not disputing anyones experiences on this or other threads, I guess I'm more paranoid than most. I definitely agree with the factory analogy/description, I just don't buy into all discs' mid codes proving that discs are made to sufficient standards. Again that's a few bad experiences with cheaper discs such as datawrites that is enough to continue to make me put my money on the real thing.
i've used shedloads of 8x Verbs from India, Singapore and Taiwan without incident but am wary of other companies who use mcc codes myself, others have better results with them than i've had
