It depends on the DVD-RW drives and stand alone players. They tell you which format they like, otherwise they give you a no disc/dirty disc error and won't even recognize them.
Rule of thumb: Old players=dash New players=Plus
I bypass both these formats and booktype my plus media to dvd-rom making my backups highly compatable in stand alones/p2s/and other pc drives. This booktyping turns the plus format into the more universal dvd-rom format to fool those stand alones into playing them.My dash backups don't even come close to the compatability as my dvd-rom backups.
Not all dvd burners have this capability.
atvdave, What's your burner's brand name and model #?

I'm not sure of the brand of my burner, I'd have to take it out to see. It came with my Dell. I do know it's a 16x DVD+/-RW duel layer. My burner will read it but not sure of my player.
My home player is a JVC xv-m50.
I was just asking cause all I've used in the past was -R. I was just wondering if the +R's where better for movies? I'd also like to know more about booktype and dvd-rom.
Anyway bestbuy had the Verbatim on sale for 25 for $9.99, so I got 25 -R's, and 25 +r's.
Thanks
Dave

I've said this before and I'll say it again; "DVD+R for me and especially the one with Made In Japan."

i will have to concur 100% with alkohol again on this particular topic...i prefer DVD+R booktyped to dvd-rom for best compatibility...and the "made in japan" doesn't hurt either :) unless i use my Verbatim "made in taiwan" MCC003/MCC004s, but that is MY only exception to the general rule of thumb of looking for the MIJ vs. the MIT~ :)

Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

I have a ASUS 1608P and have not been able to change the booktype on my drive.. So I just stick with DVD-R's... Am looking at getting a NEC DVD burner so I can change the booktype..
But I do not have really any issues burning media for my ps2 and xbox..
Cheers
