I just bought these Verb DVD+R X 16 writing speed disc. Now my new DVD burner(Sony) burns up to 16. I'm still unclear about what the big differences are between DVD-/+R disc, which is best for burning DVD movies. I have burnt 2 movies which came out very nice and plays VERY well on my Samsung HD841 DVD player. So are the +/- such different media to play on different DVD players? If your DVD burner supports X16 writing and the disc also is this ok of a speed to burn? I've seen alot of post about burning a X2-4? Thanks

Usually the difference between plus and dash format is for the stand alones. Some of them are picky as to which format they will play, and even which brand of discs they will play.Too high of burnspeeds and low quality media can also give them trouble.

4x burn speed is about par.But with these newer quality 16x dvd writers,8x should be ok. The higher the burn speed, the more chance for errors on your backup.

The best for burning movies? If your burner has the bitsetting capability of booktyping, then definitely the plus format. The plus format can be booktyped to dvd-rom,the more universal dvd playing format. That's all I do on my backups and they do play in many different drives.

I see, so let me see if I have this right... The higher the burn speed the faster it will burn BUT........... If I burn it at a lower speed the picture will look better?? So when using shrink or decrypter is their setting you can change for speed? I only see speed option in Nero express that I have.

I would not go any higher than 8X period. With that being said, regardless of how strong/super is my dvd writer, it's a risk to write at 16X.

DVD Decrypter will let you control your burning speeds, but not DVD Shrink. DVD Shrink is only a encoding/compressing program, not a burning program.

@hrtbeat2, not just look better but will play properly in any of the standalones (as long as that stand alone supports the media type!) +/-R are based on the ability to play in stand alones. -R was more accepted by older machines. With Bit Setting it turns +R's into making the stand alone into believer there is an actual DVD Rom and plays better.
I bunred one Sony at 6x speed and no problem, but I still encourage you to burn slower...less headaches.

You can also select the burn speed in DVD Shrink if you set it up to automatically burn with Nero. I always burn at 4x regardless of media being used. Guides are in my sig. Note: you have to have blank dvd loaded in burner to select burn speed.

@hrtbeat2, Yes, I just backed-up two movies (Sahara and Lilo & Stitch) I used two DL Verbatims, burned both with Intervideo Copy 3, burned both on-the-fly...menus perfect, quality...like original, then I took those copies and bunred movie only...so that if I want tojust watch the movie...slide it in and there it is. I have not had any issues with Verbatims DL disks. I have also burned Dual Layer with CloneDVD 2...awe-some job as well. I like the Verbs when your talking DL's.

i too only use Verbatim when it comes to DL media~ :) very very good stuff indeed, the MCC004s u currently use are great media (16x dvd+r) i use them myself and burn @ 8x with flawless results, you might want to stick with 4x burns, but, i burn a LOT of dvds so 8x (at least for me personally) has worked very well for my setup.

good luck and happy burning~....
