I burn using a sony dru-800A with windata DVD=R 4.7 gig dvd's.
I use DVD Decrypter and Dvd Shrink, with burns through nero. Most of the dvd's I back up work great. I have tried to backup my spiderman 2 and sin city dvds, but there has been problems. They work perfect in my computers dvd player, but the ps2 can hardly read them, and the dvd player does not read them at all. The dvd player is a samsung duel dvd vhs. Also, the samsung somtimes does not read my backups of sean of the dead and starship troopers. This is driving my crazy. I dont know if I should attempt to reburn the dvds, or if the problem is elsewhere? Is it because I need better blank dvd's? I also think the probalem may be that I just need a better dvd player, since the copy's do work in my pc. Soem help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have a samsung combo 2 of them and they both have trouble playing some of my DVD backups. So I went out and got a single DVD player by JVC and it plays the disc perfect. You could try buying better DVDs and see if the player can read them better. Same as your PS2 it is picky on what brand of DVDs it will read.

Also when you burn the DVDs make sure you are burrning them at 4x or less not at max. Any faster you could get read errors and bad burns.

Definitely try some better media. I'm unsure of windata discs, probably low quality manufacturer.

Pick up a small pack of maxells in the 3 or 5 pack, and make sure you look at the label for made in japan on the small packs of dash maxells.Pick up a pack of each plus and dash format. Keep burn speed under 4x.

Try a few backups with each format and test on your ps2. Many members suggest dash format on ps2s.

Well, I reburned them all at 6x, and they all seem to be coming out ok. My only gripe is that for some reason when I go into DVD Shrink, the lowest it will let me go is 6x. Im a bit lost on how to fix that. I would try better media, but the ones I get are 50 for 15 bucks. I would rather buy 50, and have 10 mess up, then buy 4 or 5 for more money. The quality has been pretty good for the price.

dvd shrink usses Nero to burn. if you want to have more control over the burn speed then you can have shrink make an ISO and burn it as an image file with Nero or decryptor. You should have better control over speed doing it that way. You shouldnt burn any faster then 4x

I doubt you are going to have a better success rate untill spend a little more money and move up to some quality media. Even the burns that appear to be successful now probably won't have much longevity and either become unreadable or pause, freeze, or pixelate. You will also find that the compatability on stand-alone players will be better with good quality media. You can find good media on sale for around $10 a 25 pk. I use verbatum DVD+R hub printables that cost around 65 cents a disc (not on sale) but I've only had one coaster (and it was probably my fault). It's your money and your choice.
