ok if there are people out there that have backup gt4 in a dvd-5 then let me ask this. does any one have the main menu on there backup? and I'm talking about the NTSC verson of Gran Turismo 4 because out of all the guides that I read none of them work I thank It was because that were based on pal and not NTSC. So I want to no if there is anyone out there that has made a seccessful backup of gt4 NTSC on a dvd-5 and if so how did they do it.

I am also having problems with my NTSC version. I have followed simpsin's guide and sonix guide 2x and I have three coasters now. I have followed them to the T and still I get the black screen after the opening. When following sonix guide what is the end all iso size without deleting movie files and just downsampling them?

Both times I have followed Sonix guide my end iso image is the exact same size......3.37 GB (3,626,139,648 bytes)

I got one that was pre patches and all that. Works great during gameplay. Main menu drags but doesnt slow down.

Like it works fine but you see the streaks and stuff from it going to next step.

I managed to backup my GT4 NTSC/UC yesterday by using Sonix's guide and also Toolboy's guide. I tried to use totally Sonix's guide but I got a black screen after Sony's copyright stuff. Instead of using Patch File, I'm using Toolboy's guide to patch the SCES,CORE and IOMR files. It works great, only the opening fmv there's no audio. I think it has to do with the PSS Downsample program. The rest of the game are all ok, have all the the bgms.

The DVD5 rip works in my hdd as well.

Hmmm I might have to try that then. You said you followed all of Sonix guide EXCEPT the patching part in which you used Toolboy's guide then finished with Sonix.

Where is Toolboy's guide located?

You can get Toolboy's kit and guide from Simpsim's website http://www.thefileforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4

If you want the opening fmv to have audio, don't downsample the opening_up.pss file.

Hey guys I will tell you how to get a successful backup of gt4 on a dvd-5 with audio on the opening and the main menu wount slug ether all you have to do is when you get to the downsimpling part just leve these files aloan and compress all but these at 76% and ending one more time at 75%

opening.pss
game_play.pss
game_old_play.pss < leve aloan
20r60r.pss

guide for the newbies that will need more help. Ok frist what you will need tools( softwear ) DvD decpyter iml2iso DvD_cd generater sonixs gt4 dvd-5 ripper tool verson 1.01 or 1.02 I like the second better but what ever works for you. pss downsimpling tool and apache3 you can get this with the gt4 tutorial. follow the guide form the tutorial the when you get to the pss downsimpling part just compress all but the ones at the top of this pages at 76% percent and ending one more time at 75% percent then use iml2iso to make your iso file. I wrote my backup to a verbatim DVD-R at write speed 1X and it works great.

This post is to help people with problems with the NTSC versons of gt4 SCES 973.28

What I did was leave alone the opening_us.pss(not compressing it) and the rest is compressed to 70%. In fact I'm using the NTSC/J opening file (opening_tw.pss and renamed it to opening_us.pss) because I like the soundtrack as for PAL and NTSC/UC opening soundtrack sucks to my ears.

ok if you left the opening.pss aloan and compress the rest at 70% then how did your backup work. I tried that and my backup was a coaster I could play the turismo mode but the main menu wouldn't come up it would just coast. matter of a fact I don't even thing it worked at all because the 20r60r.pss file. but I did something diffent with the movie files and I got to the turismo mobe. but when I tried to go the the main menu it would coast. what I'm tring to ask is what are you working with the pal verson or NTSC. Because if your working with the NTSC verson then you have lost my on the way that you made a backup of gt4.

If you read my previous post properly, I've stated that I'm using the NTSC version and not PAL. I've tried to recompressed all the .pss files to 75% except none for the opening_us.pss and it's too big to fit into a DVDR then I recompressed them with 70% and I got no problem fitting them into a DVD-R.

Read again my post I used Toolboy's patch kit to patch the CORE.GT4,SCUS_973.28 and IOPRP300.IMG files as Sonix's kit failed to do that (I got black screen).

Ok here is what exactly what I've done.

1. Make an .iso image with Apache3 preview.
2. Extract all the files with Apache3 preview.
3. Extracted all the .pss files from GT4L1.VOL with Sonix's GT4 kit.
4. Recompress all the .pss files to 70% except opening_us.pss using PSSdown.
5. Rebuild the GT4L1.VOL with Sonix's GT4 kit.
6. Patched CORE.GT4,SCUS_973.28 and IOPRP300.IMG files using Toolboy's kit.
7. Rebuild the .iso image using Sony's CDVDGEN v2.0 and burn it with Nero with LG 4x DVD-R.
8. Put in the disc in my v5 and v12 and both run perfect, opening fmv with soundtrack all menu accesible but LAN games hang.

When I use Apache3 to make an iso image of my game it stops at 80% and for some reason deletes the finished file? Why would this be happening?

I figured out that my original problem was that DVD Decrypter was splitting the iso image until someone told me that it was because my hard drive is FAT32 and needed to be NTFS. I re-decrypted it and now it plays fine....lol.

Thanks for the info
