sacflies and tmfloria,
You'll still need to change the booktype setting in the program you are useing to burn with after you have flashed your drive with the modified f/w.

@tmfloria
is your burner able to do book-type (bitsetting) (you did do the download right, for the firmware) and why do you want to do this? what dvd player do you have? as far as ps2 backups, not sure, as i dont do them, try the ps2 forum, but from what i know, you need to use the dash media anyway, and burn very very slow, plus the ps2 needs to be modded for it to work anyway.... but i dont really know ps2 enuff to help you in that department.

I'm not sure about my Burner & Bitsetting I was just curious if it would make a difference.. My DVD Players and PS2 both Play -R & +R so it doesn't really matter anyways... I was just curious if things would load smoother if (not that they don't already) you changed the book type to DVD ROM....
So basicly from what you guys are saying is that Bit setting or changing the book type is only needed if you're not sure if your PLAYER will play the +R format?
So If I had some +R discs and I wanted to make a DVD for a friend or Family and I didn't know what thier player played I'd be best doing a Book Type change to DVD-ROM

Yes, dvd-rom is the most compatable format with stand-alone dvd players.

what mort basically means is.......... dvd players usually older then three years old, will play dash format just fine, but may not support the + format, dvd players newer then 3 years will play both usually. there are some high end players that still do both. its just experimenting really, try both formats first in the player in qeustion to find out...

If you know what already works in your stand-alone dvd player/s then stay with that format (dvd-rom will more than likely work too) but if you're going to be making copy's for family and friends, since dvd-rom is the most compatable format, there will be a better chance that they will play in all their dvd players than DVD-R or DVD+R. In other words without actually knowing what format a stand-alone dvd player will play or won't play your chances are better with dvd-rom than DVD-R or DVD+R.
