Hey guys, I use DVD shrink and decrypter to backup my DVDs. I learned from the guide on this site. After I decrypt and go into shrink I dont go into re-author, I go to full disc backup. And I can watch the whole movie fine and the menus have sound but the special features dont. Why is that? Before I backup in shink I can preview the menu and the movie and features and even when I preview the features it has no sound. And yes I do have the audio boxes check off. Then when I back it up the samething happens, no sound for the features. Whats up??

For special features to have sound, you need to keep the AC3-2 Chn audio.

While the movie is playing in DVD Shrink, right click on the preview window and select a different audio stream.

ok so as long as I have the AC3 2-ch in the features selected I should have sound. But for the movie Im backingup it has two AC3 2-ch. one 60mb and one .63mb. Do I have to have both??

Preview the movie in DVD Shrink's preview window. While the "title" is playing, right click and then left click "Audio", then select a different audio stream if available. If there are no other audio streams available, there will only be one audio stream. You can use that.

Expand the "Extras" folder, and preview each title to see what audio stream is attached to what title.

Yes, AC3 5.1-ch is all you need to hear the main movie. :)

The AC3 2-ch audio will be for the "Extras" and/or "Directors Commentaries" etc.

It cause DVD Decrypter is only a "Ripper". DVD Shrink is a "ripper" and a "compressor".

A typical new movie is released on "Dual Layer" media which can hold up to 8.5GB of information. That is why it shows the size so much bigger than DVD Shrink.

DVD Decrypter does not have the capability of compressing the video, DVD Shrink does.

DVD Shrink is a ripper, but hasn't been updated in some time. So since then, new copyright protection has come out that it cannot handle/deal with. Hence the reason why you need to use DVD Decrypter first to remove the copyright protection so that DVD Shrink can open/handle it.

Unfortunately, the future development of DVD Decrypter as of recently has also been stopped. So eventually, there will be newer copyright protections that may or may not come out that even DVD Decrypter cannot handle.

Although, just fresh on the scene is a program called "DVDFab Decrypter". It is updated frequently/as needed to handle all types of copyright protection. (It is also freeware) - http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

ok cool thanks, when I have finished using decrypter and start using shrink is there a disadvantage using the full disc backup as opposed to reauthoring???

With "Full Disc" backup, your going to use more compression, as your keeping more data to be transfered to a disc. (It also takes longer to encode.)

Usually, when you "Re-author" the main movie only, you ended up using "No Compression" at all. (And it goes alot faster.)

so basically its just a time issue, if Im not in a rush I can always use full disc backup to get the menus and stuff?? It doesnt hurt the DVD burner or computer??

As with anything in this world, the more you use it and/or the harder you use it, the faster it will break/wear out.

Granted though, if your not in a "rush". Yes you could do a "Full Disc" backup. Although, with some of the newer released movies, even a "Full Disc" backup will use to much compression to achieve good "Video quality".

I have a NEC 3520A, it is a really good burner. (Decent/Above average ripper as well)

They have since released a newer model though, which is the 3450A. Here is the link to that one, it is under $50 with shipping from newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152052

a DVD-ROM is just a "DVD Player" for a PC. It does not burn anything. Why get a DVD-ROM, when you can get a DVD-Burner that does the same thing (reads DVD's).

PS2's are very picky about what brand of media they will and won't play!

I didn't see the exact model LG but it sounds like purely a DVD Read and Write and not the combo that reads and writes CD's too. Either that or firmware is out of date. Firmware usually needs upgraded after you install a new optical drive.

Flashing firmware seems to be easier than finding the right stuff (for me anyway). First figure out what firmware version you have. You said you used Decrypter so the easiest way is select Tools>Drive>check firmware updates. A little window tells you by the way current firmware is ..... Either click the link to check newest or go directly to your manufacturers website for downloads. The newest or latest and greatest version is the one you should probably use. To install just do a regular download, open up the file (probably zipped), and dont touch a thing on your computer while it runs because it could cause you to fry yer burnrer. Restart your computer when done. I asked the same question a while ago and had some help from the members round here.
